T31 Rattle Source

I've been chasing down a rattle that's slowly been driving me mad for about 4-5 months, from the drivers side it sound like it's coming from the left dash area, from the passengers side sounds like it's coming from the right dash area. I pulled out the center compartment, found nothing, crawled under the dash, found nothing. Checked the plastic moulding running along the wind shield, nothing.

Finally pulled out and the map light assembly in the roof, and so far so good. So if you have a rattle it may be worth a check.

Peter.

Re: Just for your information

omg! I thought I was going mad! I have had a rattle driving me insane for about a month now. sounds like a loose screw or something. I've looked under the glovebox area, consoles. I even took everything out of the car as if it were new to see if I could find it! I'm going straight for the light now! Thank you!

Re: Just for your information

Thanks for that Peter
I had a rattle and found it was a stapler mooving around in the centre dash console.

Maybe you should re name the thread to "Found Rattle" or the like so that others can identify it easily when they do a search.
Tony

Had a similar rattle in both the exy and Navara - removed sun glasses from the holder in the same overhead console and rattle gone - TWICE!

I had a rattle coming from rear door and in the last service had them check it out and found a black plastic clip that holds the panels in for the spare tyre rattling around inside emoticon

Beats me how that got there emoticon

Re: T31 Rattle Source

Thanks jalalski for fixing my post.

Anyhow I have slowly been reinstalling the map lamps first making sure the power cord is not rubbing anywhere and the lamp assembly is fully seated, then driving for a while, next securely seating the small center plastic piece followed by the lamp covers.

Will I think it's gone thank goodness.

Peter

Re: T31 Rattle Source

From when I picked up my 2nd hand T31 ST-l it had some tolerable rattles and buzzes (apart from the CVT which was replaced !!! ).

Image

I've recently spent some time tracking down these various noises and thought I would pass on what has transpired thus far.

Buzz in vicinity of Drivers sun visor :
- Tapping the front Map Light works for about 30 seconds.
Have removed map light and siliconed (because of the heat by a light bulb, no other material would be safe) various small gaps and mounts. Didn't work because I think it's a wire above the ceiling where I can't reach to fix.

Muffled body rattles at the front - especially on rough roads but also on the bitumen:
- Various tubes and cables !! (especially bonnet release cable & radiator overflow tube) need to be cable tied to any available solid hole or thing to secure them from moving; success.

- Air intake tube from Air Cleaner !! to grill is a problem; Inserting a 1 inch thick piece of adhesive foam (like draught sealing foam rubber strip - sticky one side) between fuse box lid (under the intake tube) and the bottom of the first small resonator protrusion after the air cleaner, stopped a lot of the up and down movement of the intake tube.
Also pull the whole tube off and make sure the down tube to the very large resonator is fitting properly to the resonator because if it is not, then the resonator flaps and bangs around, even in the wind. Replace the intake tube making sure the down tube is correctly located and the car is transformed into a quiet limo emoticon This tube is still insecure in my opinion.

- Windscreen washer bottle !! exit tube clamp can touch the body and rattle, just rotate it away from body. This leaves the poorly fixed bottle to rattle at the top of the fender. Get some anti squeak felt adhesive tape (Bunnings) and fix to Metal under front of bottle - success to better support and silence bottle.

I must say that with these noises suppressed my X-Trail is a much nicer car to drive - even a small rattle is REALLY Annoying !!! emoticon

Also Translucidus law no 3 - NO Noise is actually coming from where it appears to be emoticon

Plan to attack the Nissan X-Trail "Rear Drawer/Storage" Noise Generating Feature (NGF) soon - more to come emoticon

Re: T31 Rattle Source

I found the source of my rattles the other day, it was the air vent tubes under the left & right covers on the dash.
The tubes will pull out if you put your finger in there and slide them out.
I just put double sided tape under the top lip and replaced them so they were held in there firmly, presto! no more anoying little rattles emoticon
