Where to install band expander...

Hi all

Our imported T30 has a reasonable Sony stereo unit fitted, but for some reason the previous owners never had a band expander installed - so currently we cannot receive most FM stations.
The answer of course is to fit a band expander. I'm wondering where the best location to fit one is - looks a bit tricky to remove the stereo from behind the fascia trim but there may well be an easy way to get access that I can't see.

Any suggestions?

Much appreciated

Cheers - Derek

Hi Derek,

Most of the audio related installation and the way to remove door trims and the dash fascia are covered in the DIY section of the forum. It's a good idea to browse through the many guides posted there.

THIS guide for example shows you how to remove that fascia of your xtrail model.

Thanks Jalal, I had looked in the DIY section a bit but hadn't found this guide, which is excellent. I did find some drawings of the roof ariel too, so now I am also wondering if the expander could be fitted up in the roof panel where the ariel connector is (may be an easier install if it would work - I have no idea).

Cheers - Derek

It depends on how bulky the expander is. If too heavy it may cause the headlining to sack after a while.
