Yes, I'm suggesting leaving the EGR valve connected to the wiring harness so electrical signals are still sent and received that way "fooling" the ecu into thinking the valve is still installed. Go googling a few diesel forums. I'm sure there are plenty of discussions on EGR deletions.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Fri, 12 Jun 2020 16:58:36 +0000 Re: Rev Kevhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2097532,from=rss#post2097532https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2097532,from=rss#post2097532Thanks for your input Kev, Do you mean just leave the whole unit out? I have an entirely new problem now where the exhaust gas is forcing its way out where the hose connects to the EGR unit, spraying it all over the place in the engine bay. My god, I smelt something which led my to investigate. this EGR thing is hopelessnondisclosed_email@example.com (AndyClement)Fri, 12 Jun 2020 12:27:16 +0000 Re: Error code P0488https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2097473,from=rss#post2097473https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2097473,from=rss#post2097473The code seems to indicate that the PCM is trying to determine the position of the EGR valve based on its command signal, so if you have the valve disconnected then it will never get a return signal. Try having the EGR valve connected to the wiring but not installed and see if that removes the code. I'm not sure if having an EGR valve connected like this is OK and hopefully one of the more knowledgable diesel members will come along and confirm.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Tue, 19 May 2020 23:26:02 +0000 Re: Error code P0488https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2097472,from=rss#post2097472https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2097472,from=rss#post2097472So I installed the blanking plate about a week ago and cleaned the EGR valve. The unit is still throwing P0488 codes, so I wonder whether there is a flow sensor or not. The codes are intermittent going and coming on again. The install was painful I would recommend getting a 2mm plate versus a 3 mm plate because it moves the whole unit sideways, making bolts challenging to get back in as they don't line up nice and square. I imagine a thinner plate would help with this. Hope this helps anyone who is thinking about doing the same. nondisclosed_email@example.com (AndyClement)Tue, 19 May 2020 17:26:34 +0000 Re: Error code P0488https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2097381,from=rss#post2097381https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2097381,from=rss#post2097381I have been cleaning my EGR for years now and I'm absolutely fed up with it. I clean it, it's good for a year then I clean it again, it's good for another year and so on... I had a service done at "step up" on the gold coast today (they are legends). I spoke to a mechanic there named Nick who was super helpful. He said that basically people are just blanking their EGR valves now because that's the only real long term solution if it's a reoccurring issue. So I have ordered one from "EGR blanks Australia" (see link)  https://egrblanks.com.au/shop?olsPage=products%2Fnissan-navara-d40-euro-5-yd25-25ltr This cost me $6 Now I'm gonna put this sucka in when it arrives and ill post to let you all know how it goes. If anyone has some wisdom to impart before I do so please let me know.  nondisclosed_email@example.com (AndyClement)Thu, 30 Apr 2020 21:51:08 +0000 Re: Error code P0488https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2095347,from=rss#post2095347https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2095347,from=rss#post2095347About 3 weeks ago I suffered the same code. Mine is a 2013 T31 Diesel. After following a step by step procedure in another thread I was able to remove and clean it. Spend the time to get it spotless including opening the valve with your finger and cleaning the seat area. I also cleaned the crinkly inlet tube to remove the chance of this gunk dislodging and re entering my combustion chamber. Once spotlessly clean I made the blanking plate and installed it. Three weeks and 3 tanks of juice later and the light has not come back on. I cleaned the pressure sensor with MAF cleaner which is one of the 3 modules attached to the EGR. I believe my light came on due to the fact the EGR couldn't move at all and was stuck tight due to the incredible amount of soot and tar build up. The EGR valve motor will send a code if it is unable to move. They do have a position sensor. Is it possible that although you managed to clean your EGR the motor operating the valve had ceased? I cannot see any other reason for the MIL re triggering.nondisclosed_email@example.com (xJeff)Sat, 10 Feb 2018 16:13:15 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093542,from=rss#post2093542https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093542,from=rss#post2093542Thanks Kev! Its good reading and now that i know for sure that my warranty isnt worth a picnh off sh1t I should've attacked this job myself.. My issue now is Nissan are now telling me that my EGR needs to be replaced coz its knackered! When 2 weeks prior to today.. i handed them the better part of 1/2 a tonne to clean the suckered thing .... Now it's going to be ANOTHER 1100$ to replace the EGR... awesome huh. So my short n sweet solution... blanking plate and black tape over the MIL on the dash LOL nondisclosed_email@example.com (xXBigBroXx)Mon, 03 Apr 2017 19:17:10 +0000 Re: Error code P0488https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093536,from=rss#post2093536https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093536,from=rss#post2093536Read the whole of this thread Bro. EGR was caked! I have dealer (not nissan) warranty, which of course was declined, reasoning, it is a maintenance issue BUH BOW! Nissan cleaned the EGR, done an ECU update at an exceptional cost, all done and dusted, right? Nope... Same fault has just popped back up! Could this possibly be a residual thing from it being gunked with crud before or a failed EGR (pending inspection)? I fit up the provent 200 at another exorbitant cost ($231 with all hoses clamps and drain cock ... adding some sheet aluminium for the bracket) to help eliminate this EGR issue again. I am going to fit a blanking plate to the EGR after this... like i have done to previous vehicles (Tdi Disco and ZD30 Patrol) but have heard the Exxy ecu needs a flash tune to ignore the EGR sensor? Can anyone shed some light on that for me please? nondisclosed_email@example.com (xXBigBroXx)Sun, 02 Apr 2017 19:54:31 +0000 Re: Error code P0488https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2040062,from=rss#post2040062https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2040062,from=rss#post2040062Hi Adrian, Please make sure you post an Introduction Post HERE before posting anywhere else on the forum. My Exxy is Aug 2008 dCI. Now done just under 18000km. Same problem - Error Code PO488. Yesterday the mechanic at Nissan removed EGR valve and cleaned it. He said it was easy to access one side of the valve but not the other, due to the length of the tube on that side. He said it took him an hour and a half just to remove the valve for cleaning. MIL came on again today after only 10 kms. Will be taking it back (for third time) on Monday and will mention the oil leak possibility. Also will get some feedback on the use of the Wynns EGR3 aerosol. Will keep you posted of any helpful info. Once again, thanks for the opportunity to learn from other X-Trail users. This is not good news indeed, as you maybe experiencing an oil leak that is clogging the EGR valve as described HERE Please check your air filter and if you notice any traces of engine oil on it, take it immediately to the dealer to trouble-shoot as they might need to replace the oil separator. P.S. I made the huge mistake last week and let the wife borrow the car for a few days only to have it returned with the MIL on the dashboard lit up I connected my code reader to the socket and it happily informed me that the error code was P0488 - Exhaust gas recirculation Throttle control circuit A Range/Performance. In the first instance I cleared the error and drove a further 50 miles and before it reappeared Could anyone recommend how to troubleshoot/repair this fault, I know the code is to point you in the general direction but has anyone else had the same issue?
