Re:Re: Oil on the air filter and Oil Separator Leaks (T31 Diesel)

emoticon Hi guys I'm looking at fitting the ProVent 200 and just want to know... Do i need to clean the intercooler and the rest of the closed system before fitting the ProVent 200 or just change the air filter that has oil on it?

Always better to check the whole system if there is oil on the air filter and clean it if needed.

Re:

I now have about 20k klms on my 2013 X-Trail now, and it only has about 1/2 teaspoon of oil on the air filter. I can certainly live with that.

Re: Oil on the air filter and Oil Separator Leaks (T31 Diesel)

Just did a minor check over of fluids and air filter only to find the oil specks and stains as discussed previously in this thread.
So yes, I've read the entire thread, I took note of the benefits of the provent / catch can.
But what I'm curios about it the members who were able to get this updated EGR valve?
I contacted my local Nissan service center and they had no idea of the 'fault' or the updated valve.
Has anything further come to light about this?

I can see the MAF sensor is caked with oil, so I'll rip that bad boy out and give it a clean when I get some cleaner...

I'm assuming its likely that I'll have SOME oil resting in the intercooler - is it worth ripping it out to take a look? Cos seriously I presume that's a prick of a job.

We've not had the car long so I can't say how much oil the previous owner / service center had filled it with but its sitting smack bang at the top of the dip stick as is so I'm assuming they filled it to the brim rather than 1-2 notches below the top.

What are the other plant codes?
No C in mine and 180k on the clock no problems.
No oil on the 40k old filter.

I don't baby it, its always loaded up with gear and does some heavy towing.
Great little engine IMO

Re: Oil on the air filter and Oil Separator Leaks (T31 Diesel)

 emoticon Mac01 15/6/2018...

I sited your pictures of the catch can where it shows the tube between the air intake from the
air cleaner to I presume the oil separator?, so which of these connections is the in and out,
also from the catch can which is the in and out, thus from what position on the catch can to that tube connection in/out,
as I have a similar catch can but has no instructions?

Re: Oil on the air filter and Oil Separator Leaks (T31 Diesel)

I have the same oil in the air filter issue on my T31 diesel. I have previously owned a 2.7 nissan Terrano / Pathfinder which did the same thing.

The solution there was to undo the linking hose between the engine rocker cover and the air intake. Block the open ended pipe going into the clean air intake, and the one coming out of the rocker cover, make a catch bag (heat proof) to catch the oil.

I am wondering if this would work on the T31?

Has anyone tried this?
Did it work?
Did the air cleaner stay cleaner?

I replaced the standard air cleaner filter with a K&N one as this way it can be cleaned and gives much better air flow.
