Re: Oil on the air filter and Oil Separator Leaks (T31 Diesel)

The reality is I think they don't really know locally what is correct or not.

Difficult as it may be to believe, perhaps no-one at Nissan Australia has actually bothered to communicate with the engineers in Japan or France to get the true picture.

If they have and they do know and have not actioned, then they may end up in a lot of bother.

Re:

Hi everyone! as you guessed i have tha same oil separation problem and i decided to you oil catch can. i posted here http://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/t125064,offset=200#post2064298 and jalalski redirect me to this topic. Well, i understood that someone of you installed Provent 200 so i have several questions to them and hope its not hard to give me several advises. So, why exactly 200 not 150? how did you organize oil return from provent? what fittings did you use? is it possible to get more photos of installed provent?

Re: Re:

Hi Aleksey

There are some good photos and instructions/template on how to mount the 200. I am close to installing one myself as the oil collecting on the MAF and the air cleaner element itself cannot be doing any good.

You might need to go through the 53 pages emoticon

John

Great thanks to all of you and specially to Dieslndust! Bue its very interesting for me decission of dieseldave to use the same oil catch can as i have but modified inside. How it works after such big period of time? does he cleane it, any leaks?
Who can tell inlet and outlet diameters of provent 200?
Shouldn't i use silicon tube or not?

Hey guys,
While doing a pre-trip check today, I notice some oil in the air filter. Last time I checked the air filter was a few months back and there was nothing other than dust. Must have happened after I hit a bird because I found the bird's feather too. No lights coming on at the moment so it's fine for the now? Haven't lost massive amount of oil. The next service is in a few weeks time so will get it checked then. Unfortunately provent is out of the question for my leased car. Will keep an eye on the issue.

Should also mention that it has done almost 17000kms

Re: Re:

I just returned from a 1500-odd km trip down to the Southwest of WA over the past week which included some pretty heavy 4WD trails (separate report to follow!) and apart from a few oil small splotches on the air filter the car hasn't shown any oil loss and continues to run at 7.5l/100km. She's done nearly 14,000km now and still hasn't missed a beat.
At the last service I noted that the dealer put enough oil in the sump to leave it one notch below full. No difference in performance though and I haven't seen any notable change on the air filter. I have also still never seen a DPF light.
