Re: Oil on the air filter and Oil Separator Leaks (T31 Diesel)
Exy warrior, my advice would be to fit the catch can and just take it off for dealer servicing that's what I was gonna do with my Diesel Xtrail.
From what I have read from this thread is that if you don't and the oil is in your system then you may be in a world of pain with oil in you MAF sensor and every other sensor becoming inundated with oil and setting off warning lights.
Plus your car may have to run-exhaust regens more often as the extra oil is ingested and then burnt off putting your exhaust and engine under undue strain.

Re:
Although my M9R engine is still showing none of the symptoms described in this thread and on the facebook picture, I had a chat with the Service manager when I took her in for the 1000k service today.
Funnily, he has never seen or heard of the problem before and he has serviced plenty of diesel Exys.
I am starting to wonder if this condition is a result of the car being driven in a particular fashion or on particular slope/terrain etc.
I agree the condition is hardly good and far from normal but given it isn't endemic to all the M9R fitted Exys (see Steven F's entry a few posts back) one has to wonder if there is a common condition that has occurred that started the problem.
I would be keen to establish a common condition that may have started the oil leak problems even if only so I can perhaps avoid it!
Post script: Those with the problem might check out this thread in the UK Xtrail forum:

Here one guy describes a problem with a split pipe from the air filter to the turbo intake. Has this possible cause been considered before?

Re:
Hi Mark,
As you can see from the UK thread, Kev (our forum member) was on the case and he has reported it back to us on THIS page of this existing thread.
The interesting bit about that post is Nissan's UK willingness to replace the Oil Separator and more than once. This is something that Nissan Australia haven't done to date!

Re:
Interesting info regarding the suggested oil level - will check mine tomorrow before starting. I'll also make sure my dealer is aware of this at the next scheduled oil change.
Checked my air filter yesterday with 2000km on the clock and nil oil showing on the filter or in the intake at all. I haven't seen one DPF light either - that might be something to do with the car regularly getting above 70-80 kmh almost every time we go out. I'm very much enjoying the torque of the diesel!
Incidentally, I noted on Wikipedia for the M9R engine that only the Xtrail manual and the Diesel version of the Renault Laguna use the 127kW version. The Auto Exy and all the other French cars fitted with the M9R are fitted with a de-rated 110kW version. I am wondering if there is anything in that (in terms of this oil leak problem)?
