Re: Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror
Easiest place to get the power Michael is the Map Lamp above the mirror. There is no constant 12V at the sunroof switch as it only switches outputs from the sunroof motor controller to ground.
The wires at the Map Lamp should be Red/Black for 12V and Black for Ground.
(the third red/yellow wire is the door switch ground circuit which you won't use)
This is active 12V with the ignition off though.
If you do want the mirror to be off with the ignition, then you have to pick up the White/Red wire from the sunroof motor assembly itself along with the Black wire from the sunroof switch.

Re: Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror
Did some more research... cost wise... on the internet the 7806 and capacitors will cost about $5 plus S&H... call the local electronic store and it will cost $12... something wrong with this picture... 2 new batteries will cost $8 but from what I am see it will be more like $16 per year. Now the other unit I have seen the AnyVolt Mcro Unit is $22 and all I have to do is some simple wiring... soldering not my forte... recovery SUCKS.....

Re: Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror
Mike,
These batteries should last 3 years at least but I think they used a cheap brand so that is why they're dying so fast. It's like those Phillips AAA (fake copy) batteries you see being sold for a $2.00 for a set of 12, they only last 3 days LOL
I reckon you should give a new set of batteries (known brand like Duracell for example) a try before you do this conversion.
