Audio & Antenna Adapters
Looks like the long search for adpaters to enable the Nisan audio units to be rplaced is almsot over. One of my suppliers has given me his latest catalogue that has both ISO to Nissan power/audio and Nissan to real world antenna adapter cables. I'll be checking them out to make sure they work on a T31 next week, all I need is a T30 or the audio unit from one....

Use AERPRO P/N APP0120. Get it from Autobarn or SupaCheap. It should connect from your car's factory wiring into an ISO standard plug. From there you'll be sweet to connect it into any head unit. $15-$20 for the wiring harness. Look it up on Google. I used it recently for a new head unit in my Exy and from what I can gather is standard on all Nissans newer than 1995. Clicked into my 2003 series without problem.

Antenna should be standard single plug unless perchance you have the twin antenna connector which I think get shipped with Euro spec Exies. I may be wrong. Some cars have secondary wiring loom running their Radio antennas. I think its a legacy thing or something to do with fallback reception. There are available Nissan twin antenna to single antenna inline joiners if you wanted to find them. I think AERPRO does them also. Check the head unit and I think you'll find a normal coax looking single pin plug which pulls out of the back of the head unit and should connect to nearly all head units. Just reuse the Exy's wire and plug to connect your new unit.
In any case you don't need to find anything fancy for the antenna since the Exy if it did have two to one antenna it should terminate into one plug. I'd rip the head unit out and quickly check the back of your current wiring connections. It should take ya less than 5 mins as Kev reckons and I can concur with him it does. A quick check now can save lots of stress later when shopping around for something you might not need. I definitely recommend the Nissan to ISO loom though, it saves cutting into the Exies factory wiring. On each of the ISO wires it should indicate which speaker, power, etc... Easy. Oh you don't need to disconnect the battery if you're just checking it out, however since the majority of head units use the car's chassis as ground removing the head unit may wipe all Radio Presets and Time and Date stuff. Just be careful with the little sparks and don't lick your fingers.

I would presume only if the new head unit also supports the same configuration of steering wheel controls. By that I mean the same resistance/contact combination of wires to signal up, down, etc.

I have just completed the torturous process of adapting a T31 6 stacker into my T30 which has only the single cd player. I thought it was going to be a simple process of just unplugging the old and plugging in the new....how wrong I was.
I bought the unit from a fellow who was installing a unit with USB connectivity into his T31.
The T30 has a round antenna plug and a 6 pin and 10 pin connectors.
The T31 has a rectangular antenna plug an a 20 pin connector. There is also a smaller connector which is not used.
I checked out all the auto parts shops (Super Cheap, Auto Bahn, Auto One, Repco) and audio shops and none could help with the 20 pin plug. The 6 and 10 pin female adapters were available.
I spoke to two Nissan dealers (their tech experts! and parts sections). The 20 pin male plug is not sold as a spare part, but I could buy the entire dashboard harness which has the plug for around $2000.
I started doing a net search. I couldn't find one site in Australia that carried the 20 pin plug. I looked at the AERPRO site which didn't seem much help. I finally found two sites in the USA that had pictures of a whole host of plugs. There was a 20 pin plug for late model Nissans; the Xtrail wasn't listed. I didn't have much else to lose at this point so I ordered. The company in Texas had in stock all the parts needed.

I ordered on a Monday and the postie delivered the following Monday.
Here's what I got:
20 pin male plug...METRA 71-7552 for the T31 unit.
6pin & 10 pin female connectors...METRA 70-7550 to connect to the T30 harness.
Antenna adapter...METRA 40-NI22 to connect the round T30 plug to the T31 rectangular plug.
All wires are colour coded for easy soldering, but different to Nissan colour coding.
I thought my next problem would be that the unit would ask for the security code, but no, plugged in and presto on it came top my relief.
When I put all the covering back on there was a small gap about 5mm at the bottom of the unit. I had some heavy duty black plastic cable ties. Cut one to length and fits perfectly to close the gap.
The disappointing thing is that all the parts were not available in Australia. If they were I couldn't find them...especially that damn 20 pin plug.
The 6 stacker unit looks great. One very happy chappy.

Scot & Graham,
I think it would be MUCH easier and more economical to get the Series II T30 6CD stacker which is now selling brand new for $110.00 at some dealers instead of worrying about compatibility of wiring harnesses and the like.
I don't think the T31 6CD stacker has any extra features compared to the T30 one and it fits perfectly in the dash too
