Car Stereo

What are peoples thoughts on this ETO unit on eBay?

Im more curious about the steering wheel controls - Do you think this will connect directly to the Diesel steering controls?

Admin Edit: eBay link removed. Please refer to forum rules regarding eBay links.

Re: Car Stereo

I like it
It says it has two wires for steering wheel controls.
Clever how you can buy the reverse camera and tv amps.

Re: Car Stereo

Looks almost the same as the VMS unit - case cables remote etc seem to be identical but a whole lot cheaper....

Re: Car Stereo

hehehehe. emoticon

I was looking at it this morning and thought it would look nice in my wife's Tiida which has the same stereo as the T31.

Having said that, I don't trust these "made in China" electronics as they don't last long.

In addition to that and with the digital radio and TV technology spreading to car stereos, I'd rather wait and buy something that will be compatible with digital transmission (TV & radio) a bit later.

Re: Car Stereo

Yep i agree, as someone who has bought quite a few cheap chinese electronics for the car they never last very long, and the warrenty is a joke.

This is pretty cheap though for what it is, and it woul dbe very interesting to hear from someone who has bought one.. it has everything i need in a stereo but im cautious these days as ive been bitten a few times emoticon

The last time a guy at work bought a similar item it looked good, but there were little annoying things like the volume between the different functions (phone/gps/radio/dvd/mp3) was way out so he had to keep adjusting it, eventually he took it back out and put the original stereo back in! Also being that the GPS software is running on windows CE it had all kinds of random weirdness..

look forward to hearing from someone if they buy it.. id like a good kenwood or pioneer unit, one day, but not on the top of the list atm..

Re: Car Stereo

I still have one of these "made in China" DVD/TV thingies in my dash and from day 1 the remote control stopped working, contacted the guy for warranty replacement and never heard back from him, contacted the manufacturer in China and they said they don't sell parts and sell the unit as a whole, so if I wanted a remote control replacement I have to get the whole DVD player with it LOL emoticon

The next thing to go wrong was the audio balance, no matter what I do, I just can't get the audio balanced and even professional car audio places gave up on it.

I like the way they show/advertise the USB and SD card slots in these things, I tried sticking a USB player in there and.....nothing happened, also tried the SD card and same results. Opened the unit and find out that these slots are completely empty inside the unit and are only for show LOL emoticon

I left it in my dash as I can't be bothered replacing it but the next time I take it out, it's going in the bin for sure.

So yeah, it might look cheap for what it is advertised to do, but you get exactly what you pay for.

Re: Car Stereo

Ive still got the one i had in my T30 - it still works fine but it doesnt fit in the T31 as it has a fold down screen and the tolerances are too tight. Its in a box somewhere.

The on screen menu's never look as good as they do in the adverts too (im sure its a photoshop job) and, yeah, i think its worth waiting for digital radio to make it into car radios before spending this kind of money..

Re: Car Stereo

Myself guys i wouldn't touch this!
Like Jalal was saying if something goes wrong how you meant to fix it. I know some of you guys are cluey but.......
That the reason why i bought a proven unit to start with in the Exy. I can add a number of different things to the unit including reverse cam and extra lcd screens for the rear. I would rather replace cheap items like cam and others than a whole unit

Re: Car Stereo

thanks for the comments - I was thinking the same thing about the Chinese stuff how it works one day and issues the next...I guess I was more curious about the steering controls as there has been plenty of info on this forum where aftermarket units arent compatible with the T31.

I must agree with Dronus give me a Kenwood/Pioneer any day, although for the prices they are asking they can keep it!!

The reason why I was looking was because im getting tired of the 6 stack, I want a dvd/mp3 or even connect the IPOD to make ICE easier.

Tony- did you manage to get the IPOD setup working?

Re: Car Stereo

i really like it!! hopefully its better than the 7" dvd player i had (same one as jalal i believe). it was fine but the sound quality wasnt as too good when you cranked it. but that was only 240 odd dollars and that unit is roughly 650 so you'd think id be better.
on another note i was at JB hifi today and saw a jvc 7" dvdplayer with full ipod interface in special/clearance for $680.
