Blue Mountains Snow-Chaser

Hi all Blue Mountains and outer western Sydney members,

I've always wanted to do a trip out into the mountains on a day after there has been snow overnight or when the snow is falling, especially to let my now 7yr old have a bit of fun throwing snowballs.

So with winter upon us and the nip of snow coldness in the air at night, I am putting out the call to all people "near the action" to put up a post in this thread when they get up in the morning on a Saturday or Sunday to let us all know when it might be worthwhile to drive up for lunch and some fun.

I'm thinking that if a post is put up before say 9am then anyone in Sydney could get up, read the post and make their way up to the mountains by 11am and still get there before the midday sun starts to make things disappear.

How does this sound ?

Re: Blue Mountains Snow-Chaser

I did a trip a few years ago, just me and a mate.
We went for a drive and just as you go down Mt Victoria hang a left and there is a track.
It snowed that weekend and to say the least, we were in shorts and the snow was everywhere.
It was perfect, standing on the top of a mountain covered in snow.
The Xy's won't be able to get up there though as low range is required as well as a bit of hard driving to get up one particular rocky hill.

If your looking to see the snow, just wait till the winds have that ' it must be snowing somewhere' feel to it and go for a drive up this way.
you don't have to go far, we have had snow to 700m a few days this winter already.

OK it is that time of year again and once again the call is going out to all Blue Mountains and further western members for notice of snow falls.

Really don't need much notice. Even a post on the Friday or Saturday night will be able to get me up there the next morning. Just a bit far for me to drive each day in the hope of snow being there.

Re: Blue Mountains Snow-Chaser

Hi Kev
The last couple of days have produced a lot of ice around the Hampton and Lithgow areas only cause of no cloud cover. The ice did look like snow on the sides of the road and it even covered parts of Jenolan Caves road in parts.
If, like today there is some clouds up above, it can produce snow.

We have already had snow up there this winter, only very light. Just enough to say ohhhhhh.

Be prepared for arctic conditions though, on Monday it was -4c with a windchill of -11c at 11:00am. The wind was blowing at 38km/h. (We brought a personal weather station).

Tony
