Boonah district "Drought Buster" run

Sorry everyone for the delay in getting this report up (this is my third attempt - last time I got all pics and report done and then got booted off the system 8( )

Met up with Jamie & Vicky (BlackThunda) and Sarah, Ross & Tilly (Jeep) at the Caltex servo at Wishart and then headed out in the semi-darkness to Boonah. In hindsight, we probably shouldn't have followed the sat nav's directions exactly, 'cos she sent us on the scenic tour of downtown Ipswich emoticon , but we made it to Boonah at the appropriate time (even had Dave, Tara & Will (Robbo0001) join our little convey a few miles out of Boonah emoticon

Tezza, Maz & Adam (maztez), Kevin, Jodie-Ann & D'aigo (Warrlord) and Allan & John (Echo) were there to meet us and after some brief introductions and a quick check of Allan's map, we headed off (sans yummymummyis40 and DaveyJay - due to sickness and an accident emoticon )
Image Just had to wait for Dave to pick up some mik for young Will.

It wasn't long before we found our first photo opportunty (a couple of small creek crossings), obviously these were absolutely no challenge to us (even the Echo had no trouble emoticon )
Image Image Image Image

First stop at a roadside lookout to see the magnificant Teviot Falls (the area must get a lot of moisture - even the trees had moss covered trunks)
Image Image Image

By about 10am, the general concensus was to stop and have a hot cuppa somewhere. We all peeled in to the little cafe up the top of the range and filled their little carpark emoticon
Image

Then it was time to head up to the Queen Mary Falls (it was mentioned and we summised) that with all this rain, the falls should look spectacular. The feeder creeks to the falls were running quite swiftly and when we got to the lookout, the view was breathtaking

Image Image Image Image

Just a short walk along a narrow, windy & slippery track (made difficult for Sarah - so keen to come out with us, she forgot to pack her shoes emoticon )

Image lead us to the observation platform, which gave us the following views

Image Image Image Image

Again, the walk back to the carpark was pleasant Image and we then said our goodbyes to Allan & John (and the Echo) who were heading back to Brisbane via Warwick & Toowoomba.

Due to the floods, I suggested that we would head south to the area south east of Stanthorpe, just past Liston. Crossing the border gave us the perfect opportunity to show our southern cousins what they can expect as a welcoming committee when they venture up north emoticon

Image Image Image

It was time to eat, so we called in to my brother-in-laws farm house and had lunch on his back patio area. It was good to sit and chat amongst ourselves with only the sounds of the wind and occassional magpie in the distant. After lunch, we packed our gear up and headed back along the front paddock to the roadway (with Rose graciously holding open the gates).

Image Image Image Image Image
Our departure timing was perfect, 'cos the drizzly rain had just started to fall emoticon

We then drove down to the tiny hamlet of Rivertree, where our journey ended due to there being approx 1.6 metres of water flowing across the track.
Image Image Image

Although it was a very long day with lots of miles covered, I thoroughly enjoyed the trip. It was a shame that we couldn't do the planned "14 creek crossings" trip, but the water will subside and we'll get out there soon enough.

Thank you to all attendees for coming along - I hope you all enjoyed yourselves. It was a real shame that (yummymummyis40) Wendy & Rob (& girls) had to return home (we hope that Rachael gets better soon). And (DaveyJay) Dave, we hope to see you make a full recovery after your accident on Saturday night. We missed having you guys along.

Looks like you all had fun , Will have to catch the next run when it happens.

Sorry we missed it as Wendy would have loved the water falls.

I saw more mud than my exy did this weekend emoticon

Regards Scot

I've got nothing different to add, great day out, great company and interesting roads.

A couple of extra pics.

The boys playing in the natural cubbyhouse.

Image Image

River crossing on the road from the back.

Image

Final stop, should we or should we not? At 1.5mtrs, perhaps not.

Image Image

The rest of my photos are pretty much the same. Thanks for a great day everyone. After a short detour on the way home thanks to the dodgy navigator (Navman) we ended up getting home at 7.30 pm so was a very long, thoroughly enjoyable day.

Excellent trip report Steve.....errr I mean Stephen emoticon (just kidding)

Lots of good pics in this trip report to be added to our forum gallery, but the main thing is that you all had plenty of fun and organized an excellent forum trip.

The forum flags look awesome on the line of exys and I can only imagine the looks you will get if you get a bigger convoy with those flags emoticon

Well done guys.

A big thanks to Loafer ( Stephen and Rose ) for organising the trip . There certainly was some excellent scenery. and a very interesting wet road trip . We did 560 ks round trip .
As Jamie said a bit of diversion was had due to our navmen wanting to take us on wrong tracks on the return journey .( no we wern't lost ,just didn't know which way we were going )It all worked out in the end and another great X Trail adventure came to an end ...all safe n sound and worn out .
Thanks for the memories ..

Re: Boonah district "Drought Buster" run

Thanks to Steve for organising this trip. It was a masive day, I cant remember how many Kms we did but it was up in the late 600s.
Saw some parts of SE QLD I hadnt seen for a while, and parts of NSW I dont care if I see again...got the chills going over the border, specially this close to Origin emoticon
Glad we werent the only car to stuff up on way home....we got back at 1930 Sunday night, after going via Beaudesert, South Brisbane, Gateway for some reason....bloody nightmare with Will screaming in the back for 2 hours.
Car went real well, good food and converstation was had by all.

No really different pics to add....the waterfalls were awesome to see
