posticon Down & Dirty at D'Aguilar

A little late in posting this report, I know. But here goes:

Started off at the first meeting point (Shell @ Nudgee). First two exy's arrived on time (loafer and stuffinbuff), followed by MGH079 and running unusually late was freewill11.

A short drive to Dayboro (take a couple of pics) to meet up with Warrlord and DarrylM, and then it was on to dirty and dusty tracks.

Image Image Image

A late morning tea stop-off at Kluver's Lookout (with views to Moreton Bay)
Image Image Image

Then the fun started (I'm sure Robyn wasn't having too much fun to begin with, but after conquering the hills ...... emoticon )
Image Image Image

(The tracks were a lot steeper than they look in the pictures)

Image Image Image Image

Image Image Image Image Image

The next ascent was much steeper than it first appeared and Jason took his time deciding which line to take (4 times, wasn't it mate? emoticon )
Image Image Image Image Image
Triumphantly, everyone made it up to the top - like true champions emoticon

Somehow, we seemed to miss the "A Break" section (the road looked like it had been re-graded and perhaps diverted), so we made for The Gantry for a well earned rest and lunch break.

EDIT: Photobucket has decided to play up and won't let me add any more pics. I'll try again later emoticon
Take two

After lunch, we changed the order of drivers (Kevin was happy to lead us - said we were approaching his "neck of the woods") and headed off again. This time there weren't any steep climbs, just long, winding and very dusty roads. Great scenery, too.
Image Image Image Image

It was then time to hit the black stuff again and head towards D'Aguilar.
Image Image Image

Arrived at D'Aguilar and said our farewells after getting a group photo taken by Allan.
Image Image Image Image

Many thanks to Jamie (BackThunda) for organising this trip, and we're all sorry mate that you couldn't make it out. You would've had a ball! But I know how bad that bloody 'flu knocks you about. Just get well so we can go out again soon.

It was great meeting new members and not-so new member. But most of all, it was great to see everyone beat their demons and conquer the terrifying climbs and steep descents that were put in our path. A great day with a great bunch of people! emoticon

posticon Re: Down & Dirty at D'Aguilar

nerve racking, scary, amazing and unbelievable and apparently this is a novice track (with missing the A-break which i can't say i missed).... but having only joined on friday and making my first trip on sunday i had no idea what to expect but what i got was a great day that i cant wait to do again.. everyone was friendly helpful and easy going...
the track started of great nice and easy with a few rocky parts but all was good. we stopped for a bit to enjoy the beautiful scenery then hit the road again and it started to pick up a bit with the 4x4 driving, it started to get a bit rutty and washed out but there was nearly always a safer way to navigate through
then we got to a bit of down hill where it got a bit tricky (first time my exy ever been on 3 wheels) but i got down ok then came the uphill..... well i was second in line so watched loafer go up fairly easy (look forward to getting my mods now emoticon ) then i took off up and chose the same line only to get to the top of a peak and have my pride and joy die... so between rolling and sliding backwards and trying not to panic as there was others at the bottom waiting and watching i got to a safe place where i could get a good run up again. i decided to try the other line only to the same thing happen i tried again and again it died in the but luckily kevin came running up to help me out i tried turning the wheel to get traction only to shower to the poor guy in sand and dust (sorry mate) so i rolled back down got a run up and floored on the second line again and got over the peak thank god i was just about to give up but i also knew i didnt want go up what we just came down... so i got over the peak with the car stinking of burnt clutch (yes doing this in a manual is even harder) and my mum who was up on holidays and my fiance glad we made it up and recovering from the madness and yes i will admit that by the 4th try i was seriously starting to panic as it was scraping and smelling bad...
but making it up and over was an amazing feeling and knowing now what my beast can do is really comforting. i was very surprised. the rest made it up fairly easy and we were on our way again... my car still stinking up bad.. we all did opt for the A break and on to lunch although i was a bit worried but thankful for some excellent navigating from the front we somehow managed to come out near the gant for lunch missing the A break... lunch was good and it was nice to have a rest and a good chat.. we then chose go on to woodford and complete the trek.. well from here on in it was dusty and pretty solid no real rough parts just a good chance to push the car on the dirt which it and myself just loved (knowing there was no more rough parts was assuring).. we made it to woodford talked a bit then said our goodbyes and headed home....
my exy was a bit dirty a bit squeaky and a bit battered (underneath but all good) and i was amazed at the exys capabilities and worn out from a big day of bouncing about.. my mum says she enjoyed it but is not to keen to go again but beth and myself cant wait to go again... even if it did take nearly 3 hrs to clean the car today.. emoticon haha

Re: Down & Dirty at D'Aguilar

Yes was a great day,
We may have arrived a few minutes late and no-one was sure who was meeting up where and as we came down the highway we tried the UHF several times to let someone know we were on our way but received no answer.

We caught up with everyone (first 4 exys) at Nudgee and then left for Dayboro, Wendy and myself was asked to take the lead as most was not sure how to get there from Nudgee.

When we arrived at Dayboro we waited for a bit for the others, lucky Wendy had Kevin's phone number and we called him to see where he was and located him and got him to join us.

We headed out and found Daryl and Robyn near the hotel and Stephen took the lead to take us out.

The track was easy in the beginning but soon got too some great stuff.

The hill descent was a absolute ball and I felt the exy lift a couple of times, as Stephen had gone thru further down the track, Wendy hopped out at the bottom and made sure that Robyn came down ok and also Kevin.

When we got to the next challenging climb Stephen made it up easily and then Jason tried his attempt to go up.

Thank you Kevin for helping Jason up the hill and for your guidance. The rest of us had to maneuver off the track to let a few of the bigger 4x4 s thru.

The last remaining four cars we decided to walk up and choose our line and I did suggest to stick to the right and said to everyone to keep their line and momentum up and just keep going.

Robyn went up next and made it up safely, Mark also and then it was my turn and then Kevin's.

Lunch was Great and Jamie We all missed you and look forward to when we can do this with you.

The drive back was easy and we all had a chat and then we went our own separate ways.

Look forward to the next time we head up that track.

  emoticon

Great meeting you all and look forward to seeing you on future trips.

Regards Scot & Wendy

Re: Down & Dirty at D'Aguilar

It was a great day with a great bunch of people.
This was my 1st trip and I was amazed with how well it was organised, Stephen, you did a great job, and I appreciate your tips along with Scot.
All in all the I think the diesel was great when climbing hills the traction was there and it just sailed up I was very impressed. I was a bit worried about the few hits to the undercarriage, but hey, you get that.
I cant wait for the next one!!!

Re: Down & Dirty at D'Aguilar

Looks like everyone had a ball, I'm jealous as all get up......... emoticon

I'm back from the brink after two days in bed and another just moping around the house. Not 100% but on the mend and feeling a bit better. Upside is, pants are not so snug now and lost 2.5 kg over the three days. Not the best way to do it but hey, I'll take it however I can get it emoticon

Sorry I missed the trip and meeting some noobies, it's always great to see confidence levels grow as the day goes by on their first run.

Looking forward to the next trip - any plans???????????? emoticon

I'm furious that I didn't take along a camera on the day!!!

Other than that it's been the best day out I've had in a very long time. I've been trying to get out for ages (and trying to get Jody-Anne to come out for even longer)
Thank goodness that Wendy had my number because where we were parked we wouldn't have been spotted as easily as Darryl and Robin did. The trip was great and I loved the up hill section even if i did get covered in dirt. emoticon
Can't wait for the next one and even thinking about getting some exploring out this way!
