Some in cars with as low as 50K kms on the clock. A common ingredient seems to be a towbar with fairly worn towball. Question is: is this a problem in the gearbox, or in the engine mounts, or something else? nondisclosed_email@example.com (exuberant)Sun, 07 Nov 2010 22:40:17 +0000 Re: Transmission play in 1st and 2nd gearhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2029497,from=rss#post2029497https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2029497,from=rss#post2029497I don't know about the play in the gear. Mine is complete opposite between 1st/2nd (seems to be very stiff and feels like a force is against it) In regards to the REVs staying hih between gears, I get this too. If the Xtrail is drive-by-wire, the computer may be programmed to maintain revs for a second when the clutch pedal is depressed. If this is a design feature I'd imagine it's to make gear changes smoother by match engine revs (less wear on the clutch). Can anyone confirm this or is it an issue? EDIT: On my own issue, I hope not to hijack the thread. My 1st to 2nd gear change feels like a force is pulling on the gear stick. If any of you have ever used a force-feedback joystick on a computer, it's something like that. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Munners96)Fri, 26 Jun 2009 13:05:03 +0000 Re: Transmission play in 1st and 2nd gearhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2027312,from=rss#post2027312https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2027312,from=rss#post2027312I would love to come but I am going down to surfers to see cheech and chong. I can't believe they are touring after all these years. Please let me know when you are out and about again. Check out this thread Also, it'd be a great way to meet other Xtrailers. Hope to catch up on Sunday, if not maybe some other time.nondisclosed_email@example.com (BlackThunda)Thu, 30 Apr 2009 20:01:18 +0000 Transmission play in 1st and 2nd gearhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2027300,from=rss#post2027300https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2027300,from=rss#post2027300Hi I have just bought a manual 2005 ST II. This is my 1st 4x4. It has done about 110K km but I am a bit worried about the transmission. If I lift on and off the gas in 1st and second there seems to be a fair bit of play. Is this normal? I have also noticed the revs seem slow to drop when the clutch is depressed as I am changing up through the gear box. It's all clean and I want to get it muddy.
