Resale value after custom paint job.
I'm considering a custom paint job. Initially I had planned to get a camoflague paint job, and of course was met with some rather stunned responses, most pronounced of these was the reaction from the local body shop.
I was politely informed that I would have to go to melbourne to have a "decent" job done.
However a hangup I have with such a mod is resale value.
So I have decided to co for a compromise, which, in essence is why I purchased an xtrail instead of a navara or cruiser or something more substantial.
My compromise would be an olive green paint job, one colour.
The question remains, would any of you guys look twice at an Olive green exy?

Re: Resale value after custom paint job.
I reckon it will affect your resale value regardless of what colour combination you will choose to paint it.
Cars that have been re-sprayed in original colour suffer a loss in value because it immediately suggests a repair job or that a car has been in accident, let alone having an entire car re-sprayed in totally different colour.
I would only do this if the original paint was badly damaged and the car is a keeper, in which case I wouldn't care much about its resale value anyway.
I believe THIS is the colour you are after?

Re: Resale value after custom paint job.
Well, with all that I am doing with it, it will probably be a keeper. It's a car that fits me better than any other, bar my old camper van, but that's in a class all of it's own.
I'll probably have this until it falls apart.
the suggested green colour is a very nice one indeed, but I have a theme I would like to follow.
A thought has occured to me though, that if I really want to camo the car, a green paint job and a decent size cam net should do the trick.
As for the paintwork suggesting a repair, noted, and ty for the comment - I will consider that when making my final descision.

Re: Resale value after custom paint job.
I am still waiting for the Red Exy to come down-under
If mine gets a bit old and the paint gets damaged due to age, Red will be the colour that I will re-spray it in, presuming the engine will still be running by that time LOL

Clare wanted a red one - unfortunately I couldn't convince her to let me import a GT

I can't believe you mentioned a colour other than black! I don't think the red would go too well with all the chrome accessories you have. And to do it properly, they'd all have to come off and be put back on again. At least it would be quicker the second time around, as you've already removed everything at least once before to change them to chrome
Drano, with past experience on modifying cars (although I've never had one resprayed), you never get return for your expenditure, except in very rare situations. But if you're planning on keeping it for many years to come, by all means, go for it! I just hope you don't get caught like I did when I met Clare and she had never driven a manual car before, thus the need for me to sell the SSS. It's not all bad though - if I hadn't sold the SSS, I wouldn't have been a part of this great forum!

Re: Resale value after custom paint job.
Drano,
Sorry but coming from a Defence background, why on earth would you want to paint your Exy in camo, olive green (especially drab) or battle grey (I know not mentioned grey, just thought get in first)
Sorry to me not a good look and Yuk.
It would be looked at as an Exy owner is either a 'defence want to be' or a 'defence jerk'.
