Exhaust cover

Hi Guys,

It's been two months since I purchased my 06 T30 and always noticed that the Muffler sticks out a bit. Didn't worry about it too much but recently had a suspicious that the guy who sold me the car might have mod the exhaust or even worse had an accident.

I have a tow bar and noticed on one other T30 who had a tow bar as well that they look the same. I have seen other x-trails who's got a cover that runs a long the muffler and pretty much hides it.

My question is, could it be that if you have a tow bar you can't fit that cover ?
If you can, would you get them at a dealer and how much they are ?

Thanks
Ty

Re: Exhaust cover

Hi Ty,

The rear cover you speak of cannot fit with the standard Nissan towbar and is usually taken off when the towbar is fitted (as was done with mine).

I beleive that if you have a Hayman-Reese towbar then the cover should be able to remain fitted. Getting one would be better from a local wrecker rather than a Nissan dealer.

Re: Exhaust cover

Sorry, I misread your post and thought you're talking about the exhaust tip LOL emoticon

As Kev said, the black plastic cover it taken off when a genuine Nissan towbar is fitted, but with the Hayman Reece towbar they cut an opening in it to cover the towbar and only the neck shows.

You can find this cover at any wrecker that has xtrails. I donated mine recently to one of the guys on the forum.

Re: Exhaust cover

Thanks guys.

My tow bar is TAG. So I don't think if it is a Nissan genuine.
Would I be able to fit the cover ?

Cheers

Re: Exhaust cover

I have the standard Nissan towbar with the plastic finisher removed. I regularly tow a 5 metre aluminium boat with it. I tend to find that the ball / tongue piece tends to move around (milimeters only) in the square shaped bit attached to the car. When not towing, it rattles around a bit. Does anyone else have this issue?
I had a similar style towbar fitted to my old Holden Jackaroo. It had a separate bolt which went through one side to tighten down on the tongue which stopped the movement. Any other ideas to take up the slack and stop the rattle?

Re: Exhaust cover

Ray,

Put tape around it and it'll stop it from rattling.

Please note that your question has nothing to do with the subject of this thread and should have posted in the towbar thread.

Re: Exhaust cover

Ty,

I reckon you will be able to fit the cover if you cut an opening in it for the towboar tongue, it doesn't stick out as the genuine nissan does and doesn't cover the points where this plastic cover would sit.
