Re: Crank position sensor
With my exy's next service being 130 k should i think about replacing the crank and cam sensors and maybe the oxygen sensors? Car runs well, sometimes stalls on first start when warm but if you touch the gas pedal for a split second it pulls it into line and revs drop back to normal idle.
Fuel economy is still not to bad, maybe worse off by 0.5 litre / 100 kms on average from 20k ago.

Re:
Not a bad idea to change both the cam and crank sensors as it is only a matter of time before they're dead. Leave the O2 sensor for later, as it lasts longer than these 2.

Re:
You could just buy the sensors and wait for it to happen but then it might get you at a bad time or in an inconvenient place.

Re:
Thanks for your help again Scott, was thinking some sort of switch as well but unfortunately things have progressed a little. It had a P1612 error which apart from other things, detects weak battery, which it did have despite engine cranking over and starting easily. Battery replaced, so off for a short drive. After restarting, fault re-appearred then MIL. Managed to get car into D after a few attempts which I was not able to do previously, and returned home. Was P0102 code, but engine was showing no signs of symptoms to support MAF fault. Replaced air cleaner as was a bit dirty and tried resetting ECU with fuse out method and immediately engine went into limp mode. Checked, MAF and found no 12V supply only 5V on Red and about same on G/Y. Can anyone confirm that I should be reading 12V on the White cable? and if so, what should I be checking to find the missing 12V supply?
Sorry about this being on the Crank angle sensor thread, but that was my initial thought as to cause of problem.

Re: Crank position sensor
Terminal 4 White wire should be battery voltage.
Terminal 2 Red wire should be 5V.
Both measured to ground.

Re: Crank position sensor
We picked up our "new" XTrail Thursday last week ... 2007 ST-S with 91,000km on the clock.
Tuesday this week, the better half was driving it to Melbourne (about 2 hours away) when the car lost power for a few seconds, MIL came on, then went off & was fine again.
About 15mins later it happened again, and the light stayed on this time.
Next day, she drove back home via Mornington Nissan where we had bought it from - they plugged it in & got CAS error code. They replaced both the cam & crank sensors on the spot while she waited (about an hour) - no questions, and no charge.
Very happy with that, as they could have easily said it was a part that can fail with time & not covered by statutory warranty, and there was no way they could have known the sensors were on the way out. We'll probably take the car back there for it's next service, even though it's nowhere near being the closest dealership.
