Re: first beach trip

It's a pity I can't spell proper like - should've been "Cooloola".

I've not been there myself but it was shown on the ET fishing show a few weeks ago and looked like a good spot. It's about 240km north of Brisbane, between Noosa Heads and Rainbow Beach. Check this out

http://www.epa.qld.gov.au/projects/park/index.cgi?parkid=66

and this too

http://maps.google.com.au/maps?hl=en&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=OOk&resnum=1&q=cooloola beach qld

There's a lot of beach to play with it seems....

Has anyone else had a go at this place? All info welcome.

N.B. Mudlo rocks could be a problem - but remember the the 7 P principle - Prior and proper planning prevents p*** poor performance.

Re: first beach trip

Hi Greg,
I have been to Cooloola Beach, mostly known as Noosa North Shore or Teewah Beach. You have to go like most places at low tide as the high tide doesnt leave mcuh to drive on. I have been up and down the first cutting a lot of times and as of yet have not been bogged. A lot of 4WD get bogged along the first cutting due to the vast usage of vehicles using the track creating large and deep tracks to follow.

It can be at times busy along the beach but it can be a long day if you want to drive from one end to the other. If you want to drive along a beach which is closer you can try Bribie Island but you require a permit. Cooloola will require a permit shortly as well as the Government is trying to control the use of this beach by 4WD vehicles.

The ferry across the Noosa river will cost you $4 each way

Regards
Shane

Re: first beach trip

Thanks Shane,

The tides could be a problem. "ET" mentioned that in one year 80, or so, vehicles came to grief by not watching the tides - best we not add to the stats, eh? emoticon

Bribie Island may be The Go.

Re: first beach trip

For my maiden beach day with Jamie and Stephen, Bribie was perfect.

The entrance was simple and driving along the beach was easy with hard places if you wanted to try driving higher up on the sand in some soft stuff. As already mentioned, low tide is the best with plenty of room to drive along the beach with other vehicles approaching.

Re: first beach trip

Let us know if your thinking of heading to Bribie, I have a annual permit which I would like to get some use out of it. I'm ruled out for a couple of weeks until I get the car serviced. Seems I have a wheel bearing problem at 18,000K Are there any places along Northern NSW where you are allowed to drive on the beach?

Regards
Shane
