Re: Oversized Tires on T30? Is it possible, anyone done it?
Hi guys,
Just a quick one in relation to this thread.
Im looking at getting Pirelli Scorpion A/T 235/65/R17 on a new set of 17" rims. Review on http://www.4wdaction.com.au/tips_tyres.php shows that they are up there with some of the best. Plus i have a guy in Sydney that gets me cheap Pirelli tyres.
According to a tyre calculator the difference between my current stocks 215/70/15 & potential purchase of 235/65/17 is a) rolling radius difference is 27.65mm, b) circumference difference 173.73mm and c) diameter difference is 55.3mm
It also tells me that because of the difference in this that when im doing to 100km/h im actually doing 107.5km/h.
My question for you intelligent people that know your Exy's more then I do, other then the km/h difference, is there anything else regarding these sizes that may cause an issue for me or the car for that matter.
After seeing the lift kit that "Jwilkes" refered to, I would most likely get that as well if the height clearance was an issue. I guess i should be more worried about the width??
I took the Exy offroad to Meryla State Forest on the weekend and it felt like I need bigger/ A/T tyres to get through some of the wet clay/mud areas. It handled it perfect but felt that grip was lacking a bit. Im trying to update the trips section of the forum with pics/review of the trails but still working out the photo upload part lol
Anyways any help would be much apprecitated.

Re: Oversized Tires on T30? Is it possible, anyone done it?
Gotta agree with Kev...the pictured inner wheel arch at the rear is mine.
It was the biggest factor in stopping me getting a bigger tyre. I limited myself to 225/70/16 BFGs, and have also had rubbing on the inner engine trim as mentioned by Kev on full lock, fixed by some manipulation of the plastic.
Some "manipulation" of that metal lip pictured might also be posible (ie grinding it out) but how far do you really want to go?
The 17s will really limit your choice of tyre, as mentioned. A lot of guys with Pathfinders etc are all getting/ looking for 16 inch rims, purely cos the tyre availabilty is much better.
Possible to get a Pirelli off your mate, on 1 rim, and do a test fit?....I think the rear will be the drama.
Cheers
Edit Nice timing on your post! Just saw it....The BFGs look good, and fit well. They FIXED my speedo, according to GPS...pretty much spot on. 101km indicated at 100kmph on the speedo.

There is another way,
you can source some as they say 'dished out rims' or with an offset that is set back towards the axle. This would poke the tyre out flush with the guard and give you the clearance desired to not rub on the plastic.

But then the possible rubbing of the outside of the tyre on the upper guard when the suspension is compressed would be the question.

I was just looking at Brett72's ride, which has 225/70r16 BFG all terrain tyres.
Im thinking maybe i should head down that path instead. It looks really good with those wheels and the 40mm lift kit.
Maybe some Geolanders or the BFG's. The BFG's look pretty sick actually.
And the speedo shouldnt be out that much either.
Those BFG's are the very same as Dave (Robbo0001) has with the 50mm strut spacers. Just check out his ride thread here.
I've got the Geolandars in that size and the 50mm strut spacers and you check out mine here.

No Way Dave !
How do they fit up into the wheel arch when loaded or during articulation over rough stuff ?
