To remove the push on nuts you have to unscrew as you pull upwards, this way they come off like a conventional nut.

Re: Sunglasses holders

Good info Cooch - unfortunately only one of the 6 can be seen even reached without removing the roof lining.

It almost seems as if Nissan regarded the surround as part of the roof lining never to be replaced without breaking it.

Could be wrong, but a this stage I can't get mine off without breaking the surround or bending the roof lining too much.

Re:

I took out the original plastic surround and re-fitted without a problem, the trick is to un-clip it from the back first, yes the roof lining moves but the front posts just pull away without breaking. Why I have stopped with the job at the moment is that I need to make a template from a TI so I can very accurately cut the roof lining and also I need to get the sunglasses holder metal bracket. On top of this there is also a electronic gadget which plugs into the existing light fitting holder which doesn't seem to have a place in the sunglasses holder. Be patient I will work it out I just haven't had the time yet. As a footnote there is no need to import anything from Japan as all the parts are available over the counter at your local Nissan Dealer often cheaper but more importantly with a local warrantee and the ability to take them back and get a credit note.

Re: Sunglasses holders

Hey that's great news that nothing is damaged and that surround can be removed.

I did notice that the posts are not in holes in the roof lining but rather in slots so they can slip out if roof lining is bent/moves.

Just to confirm - did you just pull down on the rear (back of car) of surround and it popped out, or did you unclip something first?

The electronic unit is shown in the Electronic Service Manual as an "Ultrasonic sensor unit" which I guess would be for the car alarm or perhaps the rain sensor for the auto wipers (JALAL??)

This might be useful:
Image

As you can see - in the top right corner the picture shows the Holder with a squarish centre area for the Ultrasonic Sensor. The one I bought (as per my photos) and presumably yours is different!!

Ex Japan was what the dealer told me but the Sunglasses Holder actually appeared in about a week so I guess it came from interstate.

Hope lives on . . .

Yeah, that's what I said HERE about the auto wipers and auto headlight sensor, but this sensor is only available on the Ti and TL models.

Re: Sunglasses holders

So the auto headlight and Wiper sensor that is part of the Windscreen is wired via this unit?

It's interesting that the square unit is over the small hole in the Light surround and it says ultrasonic sensor. I thought the hole was for a microphone.

Also on my new Sunglass Holder there is no hole! SO many variations on one part.

It would seem that if ordering this part it is necessary to specify car model and features to get the correct one!!

Re: Sunglasses holders

The electronic gadget that clips into the fitting is actually the microphone for the Bluetooth, so this means I may need to get a TI Bluetooth microphone and relocate it to the side of the windscreen like on the TI ( this job is not looking so cheap now).

The light holder just pulls down from the rear, after you remove the light from the fitting, it is important to do this first as there is a metal bracket above all this. Also forgot to say that the new metal mounting bracket for the sunglasses holder is $23, then I need the Bluetooth mic and wiring. I'm going to take a TI for a long test drive to check it all out.

Re: Sunglasses holders

Thanks for the info.

So the new metal bracket is available - do you have an item number or is it easy to order from Nissan Dealer. How does it attach?? (presuming it's not welded to roof panel).

Don't forget to reassemble the TI before you hand it back - he he

Just wondering if AnyOne has managed to fit one of these to a T31?
