Re: hiimkam's TrboXtrl Project - 255whp(190wkw) @ 12 psi

Hey kev, yeah everything's going sweet. Not a peep of complaint from the engine or gearbox. It starts first time every time, still struggles for traction in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear in 2wd mode emoticon No issues, just in the middle of sussing out a cold start valve, since I had to ditch the fly-by-wire throttle for an SR20 cable throt. Just need a bit of a wiring job and hook up a laptop to the EMS and tune the warm and cold idles...

Got my new wheels on Saturday emoticon

They are 18" x 8.5" +34 Koya Drift Teks with 235/50 rubber on them.

The tyres aren't the best I know, even though I was recommended Achilles by Tech9Tyres, they speak highly of them, I've heard bad things about them... They came with the package so I didn't really have an option.
However I've noticed a massive increase in traction, I can hold traction completely in 3rd gear now, and I've lost heaps of my understeer from those old shitty h/t khumos. That's prob due to the 20mm more i have on all corners.
The only thing I havn't sussed out is the wet traction or the wear pattern (obviously). If they start to wear like crazy or the wet traction is worse than before, then I'll change them... For now they do fine, considering the car doesn't do any track work, its just a daily. There's no point in spending 2k on tyres if its never gonna see a track...

The wheels sit 33mm further out emoticon Here's a profile view you can see they ever so slightly stick out the guards emoticon haha

Ok need advice: What colour should I paint my break calipers?
I'm thinking gold to match the weel nuts, or just black for a clean look.
Would gold be a bit too rice/tryhard?

Next on the cards is my coil overs. I seriously need to dump it now, should look good with those wheels IMO...

Tell me what ya think! emoticon

Easy choice for me looking at your Exy "Black" as gold would be just wrong but hey that's my opinion

Thanks for the advice guys!

Those rims look sweet Cam...Hows the driveline holding the extra horses?
No probs with the clutch/ gearbox or the diffs?
I would be going red for the calipers...and droping the car pretty low as well.
Looks good mate emoticon

Coilovers will help it look sooooo sweet Cam but you'll have to be careful with the rear guards or maybe drop the tyre width one size.
I'd do the calipers in red for that "Brembo" look emoticon

Yeah I'm sold...

Red it is! emoticon

Everyone seems to like it and I think (especially looking from behind) it'll match the tail lights and reflectors...

Kev, the coilovers are the next thing I'm saving up for.
Hotbits X-Trail specific 2-way adjustable coilovers are $1950 for a set, and I've been quoted $650 for fitting, setting the ride height, wheel alignment and camber adjustment.
I don't know what I'm gonna do for ride height, prob lower it so there's about the same clearance from the guards as there is tyre sidewall, i.e. side wall is 117mm, so I want that distance from the top of the tyre to the guard. That seems to work well with most cars, and i don't wanna completely slam it, cos it'll attract too much attention from the boys in blue...

Dave, the driveline is holding up well... The rear diff is still rooted from the dyno tuning, same problem as Jalal had, I've been quoted $990 to fix it all up, I'll get around to that someday, no rush. Clutch is fine, the X-treme item seems to be holding up well, not slipping or wearing strangely. Not a peep of complaint from the gearbox or transfer case (or engine for that matter).

Re:

Hey guys, time for an update.

The motor is still in very good condition, did a service yesterday @ 145k kms.including oil, break pads and a good clean and vacuum!

Soon I'm re-doing the exhaust side of the motor for power and reliability's sake.

Plans:

-New manifold (log style from Godspeed in the US)
Image
Image
-Tial MV-S external wastegate (these are Tial's new range of gates that are water cooled for extra life and spring rate consistency)
Image
-3" dump pipe (replaces the 2.5" one that I have at the moment, it'll flow alot more...)
-screamer pipe + recirculation pipe (gonna have two parts made up, one will be a screamer that vents the external gate to atmo, and the other piping will recirculate it into the exhaust, they'll be interchangeable emoticon
Image
-fuel pressure regulator (I've found the working limit of the factory in-tank fuel regulator is about 200hp, over that, the regulator can't either 1) flow enough fuel, or 2) keep the pressure stable and at about 4 bar.
-0.8bar (12psi) emoticon
-battery relocation (to the boot to make way for an airbox emoticon
Image
Image

All this should bring a little more power, maybe about 280hp emoticon

Hi Cam,

Certainly shows the reliability of the setup with about 30-35,000kms with the turbo fitted and still running as sweet as the first day you tuned it.
Well done buddy emoticon

That manifold certainly looks the goods...3 inch dump pipe? Bloody hell, if it works on Patrols it will certainly flow better on the Xtrail emoticon
Thought about installing a gel Odyssey or Spiral battery on its side where the spare wheel lives, under the floor? Will be easier to run cable under the car, secure it all in the wheel cavity and hide it away. Just another option to the thumper pack in the boot.
Love the build mate, looks great emoticon
