Sydney to Brisbane

Hi All,

We're planning to drive from Sydney up to Brisbane over the holidays and then work our way back down the coast over a period of a week or so. I guess most of the trip will be spent on the bitumen but it would be nice to get the tyres dirty at some stage and I was wondering if anyone could recommend any good tracks to have a look at. Nothing too technical, just enough to have some fun.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Sydney to Brisbane

I do know of a pleasant drive from Arrawarra up to kyogle it does take you out a bit further and through a cattle station but no gates to open and you can head for kyogle from there.

I can give you the details if you would like?

Regards Scot

Re: Sydney to Brisbane

Hi Scot,

Yes, that would be great thanks. We still haven't any firm plans as to where we going to be on what day so the more ideas I have the better. The more suggestions I can come up with for things to do the more chance I've got of avoiding being dragged around the shopping centres in the nearest town.

Thanks,

Hey Paul,

If you are going to be in Brisbane on the 28th, why not join us on the trip to O'Rielly's with Revhead Kev. emoticon

Strangely enough our original plan had us in Brisbane on the 28th and I was wondering what we could do in Brisbane on a Sunday. Was considering changing the plans to arrive on the Monday instead but I think you've just solved the problem. Will have to check with the other half but assuming permission is granted then I'd love to tag along.

Thanks for the tip. Could be a good one to do on the way back down before the final freeway trip back to Sydney.

Re: Sydney to Brisbane

Paul, it would be absolutely awesome if you could stretch it. It's not too early a start and not to late a finish, a nice Sunday drive in fact so shouldn't be too much after you long drive up.

Love to see you on the day! If so let me know and I'll add your name to the list. emoticon

Re: Sydney to Brisbane

There's a road going west out of Kempsey thru the mountains and finishing up near Ebor Falls on the road between Armidale and Urunga/Coffs Harbour. I've driven the road about 4 times in/on various vehicles.

Drive west out of Kempsey about 55km to Bellbrook. The whole trip from Kempsey to Ebor is 175km - so you can drive on west to Armidale (another 80km) or turn right and head back down the bitumen to the coast at Urunga via Dorrigo and Bellingen (90km). It's 90km from Urunga to Kempsey.

It's bitumen from Kempsey to Bellbrook, then it's dirt all the way almost to Ebor. From Bellbrook the road follows the river as it climbs upwards - long drop down to the river, spectacular views. You could do it in the opposite direction to appreciate the views.

Dorrigo has a rainforest boardwalk, and a nice little town with cafes. Ebor Falls are always worth the look.

Check out Google Earth, type in Bellbrook NSW, and follow the road westward along the river into the mountains - might whet your appetite.

cheers emoticon
