I heard on the news in the last day or so that some tracks up north are closed due to the heavy rain. Any chance of making it 4 days on the track from Alice. Day 1: Why not head south from Alice Springs along the Finke Track (Old Ghan), stopping off at the 'Ewaniga Rock Carvings, Maryvale (great source of authentic Aboriginal arts) and stop overnight at Chambers Pillar. You will not be disapointed at this marvelous rock formation. Day 2: Continue south along the Finke Track through the settlement of Finke and stop for a freshen up at the great Mount Dare homestead. Top food and bar and good grassed camping area if you arrive late. But I would push on and stop overnight at the Dalhousie Hot Springs for a truely refreshing dip in the middle of the desert. Day 3: Keep heading south and on to the Oodnadatta Track, through to the pink roadhouse at Oodnadatta, stopping at the numerous relics, old houses and amazing bridges, before stopping overnight at my favourite watering hole in this great land, the William Creek Hotel. Plenty of grassed camping areas and a few rooms at the rear of the Hotel if you want more comfort. Day 4: Back on the Track, heading south through Maree, Leigh Creek and beyond. This itinery will allow you to cover the track easily and without having to push it late in the day. Try and be stopped by around 4pm, as some areas are prone to straying cattle, horses, kangaroos and massive eagles. If you have not heard of the locations I mention, check them out, but I seriously recommend the stop over at Chambers Pillar and the William Creek Hotel. You wont be disapointed. Any more info you need, just ask... nondisclosed_email@example.com (BRETT72)Sat, 06 Dec 2008 22:25:33 +0000 Re: Oodnadatta Trackhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2020124,from=rss#post2020124https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2020124,from=rss#post2020124HI We will leave Adelaide on 25 dec. I have even seen a sigma s/w driving past the William Creek Hotel a few years ago.  The track conditions all depend on how long beforehand the grader came through.  How much of it are you intending to drive ?? Start-finish...  Due to the extreme heat out there, just make sure your car fluids are all fresh, tyres are at a good pressure (around 24-28psi) and you have heaps of fluids for you also. There is a pretty constant flow of traffic, school times about a car every hour or so.  I am happy to answer ANY questions you have, but when are you going, which way are you heading and how much time have you allocated for doing the track. Also, tell me about youer exy, mods etc. Then I can give you the best advise I can.nondisclosed_email@example.com (BRETT72)Sat, 06 Dec 2008 12:41:55 +0000 Re: Oodnadatta Trackhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2020112,from=rss#post2020112https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2020112,from=rss#post2020112G'day Nick If you have a look at the post "Proposed Central Australia trip" Brett has written heaps of invaluable information which would probably help you out. I am truly amazed at his wealth of knowledge When are you planning to do this trip? And what mods do you already have on your exy? Good luck with your planning and I look forward to reading about it all.   nondisclosed_email@example.com (loafer)Sat, 06 Dec 2008 10:08:45 +0000 Re: Oodnadatta Trackhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2020107,from=rss#post2020107https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2020107,from=rss#post2020107Hi Nick, I remember in the satelite phone thread that Brett72 mentioned he had done this track but no mention if it was in an Xtrail. Either way, with his experience he could tell you if the Xtrail could make the trip and what mods (A/T tyres, suspension, bash plate, etc) you should make before attempting the trip.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Sat, 06 Dec 2008 06:12:22 +0000 Oodnadatta Trackhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2020104,from=rss#post2020104https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2020104,from=rss#post2020104Hi Soon I will travel to Alice throug Oodnadatta Track.
