Re:

Tony,

I think all of them are out up and down as well as left to right, as the T31s I have seen fitted with towbars you could easily fit a finger on the left side under the tailgate edge, but you couldn't do that on the right side. The gap on the left side is bigger on some T31s compared to others, so the sideways misalignment is also there.

Re: T31 Tailgate Rubbing on rear bumper

As you can see up and down was nearly spot on, sideways about 2 or 3mm.
I have had the rear bar off a couple of times and never even tried to rectify or thought of the alignment issue.
Maybe its the actual bumper bar itself as I had seen several Xy's on the road without a towbar that have the left and right misalignment problem.

It's out Tony, I can see it from this pic, the right corner of the bottom edge of the tailgate is touching the bumper and the left side doesn't. The misalignment of your bumper is exactly like mine and it is very hard to spot just by looking at it, but I can stick my finger under the right side of the tailgate while I can't do that on the right side.

Re:

Exactly, my point for the pic was to show that my tailgate had good alignment up and down, Scot's tailgate droped on the R/H side causeing the rubbing on the body/tailgate.
My bumper never rubbed as there was ample clearance.(bit hard to see in the pic)

Yep, some tailgates have good alignment to the best ability of the dealers who fitted, but the alignment is NOT perfect as it should be when adding a supposedly a tested genuine accessory by Nissan. The gaps on all sides of the tailgate and bumper must be equal as per design specifications when fitting a towbar and it is not the case here.

Re: T31 Tailgate Rubbing on rear bumper

Jalal/Tony et al,

I found the one of the best indicators of up/down mislalignment (aside from the obvious panel gaps which give the appearance of left-right misalignment) is to look across the top line of the unpainted black sections of the tailgate and bumper and you will see that where the tailgate and bumper meet on the RHS, the bumper is a few mm or so higher. I can see it on Tony's car in his picture as well.

My car is not too bad....a couple of mm out - high and on the panel gap. As Jalal points out some cars are worse then others depending on how careful the person fitting the towbar was when the bumper went back on.

It's a bit of a shame but I see it everytime I look at the back of the car emoticon . Here's hoping Nissan provide us with a fix soon emoticon .

Cheers,

Paul.

That's right Paul and this will be even more evident when a rear bumper scuff plate is fitted as it's reflection on the bottom edge of the tailgate clearly defines the misalignment and shows the gap on the left side of the bumper/tailgate when you look at it.

In fact, in Scot's case and if he has a rear bumper scuff plate fitted, the damage to the tailgate as a result of this misalignment would be even worse as the tailgate edge would be rubbing against he scuff plate all the time.

Re:

Jalal,

Makes sense what you say about the scuff plate.

This was the next accessory I was going to buy from Nissan.

Might wait now I reckon.....

In this fact the tail gate is not connecting with the scuff plate at all.

I only have the issue of the rubbing on the inside!

Regards Scot

Re: T31 Tailgate Rubbing on rear bumper

My tail gate is rubbing on the inside of the RHS bumper. I have spoken with Nissan and my dealer. The dealer has asked for me to bring in my car for two hours to check the fitment vw some sort of template from Nissan.
By the way there is currently no bulletins about this bumper issue from Nissan.
I suggest that you contact Nissan customer service and report your problem and get a complaint number registered and quote this to your friendly dealer when booking for the fix.
Will report back when I have been to the dealer, my car has nowclocked 1,000 kms.
