Re:

Sorry I haven't responded previously. The dealer we purchased our vehicle from has a new Service Manager and he has now provided some information.

He has advised us that fourty (40) Australian Nissan Dealers have now reported the bumber misalignment problem. Reportedly the fault has been forwarded from Australia to the Nissan Main Office but because it isn't considered a safety issue it has a low priority.

The new Service Manager fitted two towbars to T31 X-Trails after we contacted him and identified the same misalignment on both vehicles. He advised that they carried out further investigation and believe they have identified the cause so have forwarded the latest information through the Nissan Dealer system.

I will update on any developments.

Re: T31 Tailgate Rubbing on rear bumper

Hi John, just picked up my new x-trail with the nissan towbar yesterday and i have the same problem. Took it back to the dealer today and its booked in for Monday. Told the dealer that this was a problem with the x-trails and wondered if there is a fix. He informed me that he was unaware of any issues. Did you get yours fixed? If so can you let me know what the outcome was. If not will see what happens on Monday and try to get some info.

Thanks Paul.

Re:

I have no issues with my 2011 Series 4 Ti and the genuine Nissan towbar fitted by my dealer. All seems to be aligned and straight. The rear bumper has been removed since then as well to fit the LED reflectors and it was put back in place correctly as well.

It would be interesting to see what sort of communication went out to dealers and what was the cause of this problem, as some dealers may not be following correct fitting procedure.

Re:

I know when I fitted a genuine Nissan towbar to the Navara that I had elongate 2 holes and drill a further 2 holes to make it fit the chassis.
It was all detailed in the instructions as well, so much for buying genuine because they fit.

Maybe its the same story for the X Trail, just some cowboys don't take the time to make sure its aligned properly.
Their mindset must be, 'its only a towbar'.

I found out this morning that the rear reinforcement bar has to be taken off to fit the tow bars on and that some genuine bars not only Nissan sit too far out for the original position of the bumper to sit where it first was located resulting in this misalignment of the bumper to the tail gate!

Regards Scot

Re: T31 Tailgate Rubbing on rear bumper

Hi all,

What Scot is saying about the reinforcement bar sounds correct to me.

This is exactly what the guy at Auto Extra in Perth told me earlier this week when I was enquiring about getting the Hayman Reese towbar fitted to my new X-Trail.

He stated categorically that this rear reinforcement bar is removed when the towbar goes on.

Hopefully this is the answer 'cause that panel misalignment is terrible. emoticon

Cheers,

Paul.

Re: T31 Tailgate Rubbing on rear bumper

Hi,
All fixed and very happy. Service manager told me they just had to move the bumper over a bit to align everything up.

Thanks, Paul.

posticon Re: T31 Tailgate Rubbing on rear bumper

Hi all,

I've just finished fitting the genuine Nissan towbar and it looks like we have a bumper misalignment as well.

We were very careful fitting the towbar and followed the instructions exactly.

Like others here the misalignment is causing an approx 6mm gap on the LHS and about 2mm on the RHS.

We've had a think and can't really work out what is causing the problem unless we pull the bumper off again to try and fault find.

It's a bit disappointing emoticon . Aside from the noticeable misalignment the towbar looks great. My 1000km service is next week so I'll speak to the service manager at the Nissan dealer about this. Hopefully he has some answers?
