Re: T31 Tailgate Rubbing on rear bumper

Keep up the good fight people.
I stopped next to another exy at the lights today and spoke to the driver about how I could see that his bumper was misaligned and he said, thanks but it was a company vehicle so was not that interested but once I told him his car was not the only one with the issue he told me that his company had another 25 in the fleet and he will tell the drivers plus fleet managers about the problem..... More private buyers and now commercial fleet operators are aware of this issue emoticon
I wonder if the issue will be rectified when Nissan start their own manufacture of accessories next year?

Re:

Thats good Scot. Hayman Reese can no longer state that they have no recorded problems after the last couple of days.

Xemplary, good move chasing up further support. The more people that are aware of the problem and take the time to contact either Hayman Reese or Nissan the better.

It is interesting that Hayman Reese have stated to me that they DO NOT manufacture towbars for any other brand of towbar ie. Nissan.

So the question is...if Hayman Reese don't make the genuine Nissan towbars...who does?

Here is Nissan Australia's response to Scot's question on Facebook about the Genuine Nissan Towbar and if Hayman Reese manufactures them:

Nissan Australia
Hi Scot, Nissan genuine tow bars are designed by Nissan and manufactured in the same factory as some Hayman Reece products. Hayman Reece distribute many other different types of tow bars that are not designed by Nissan.

Am not sure how you guys interpret this, but personally I reckon it means the 2 towbars are indeed identical

Re:

I would interpret the Nissan response exactly the same. It confirms what we believed to be the case and the towbars would be manufactured the same.

We now know that

* Nissan designed the towbar
* Hayman Reese manufactures the towbar
* Nissan were aware of the problem over two years ago
* Hayman Reese state that they were not aware of a problem until we contacted them this week

Now hoping the two will start communicating, rectify the design problem and produce a suitable fix for us all.

Re:

I read it as Nissan designed the bar.
Haymen Reece makes the bar, this doesn't mean that they are identical to their bars.

Only way to really tell is to have the HR and Nissan bars side by side for a comparison.

Re:

Tony,

Scot's problem with the Hayman Reese towbar is a dead give-away that the design is indeed identical, as it is causing exactly the same mounting problem.

The X-Trail towbar is not the only towbar Hayman Reese manufactures for Nissan Australia.

Anyway, if we can get HR and Nissan to talk to each other about this problem (if they haven't done it already), I reckon they would be able to find a solution quicker.

Re:

To try and obtain some further information on the problem I decided to order a "snake endoscope borescope camera" that I hope to be able to sneak in behind the bumper to get some pictures.

It will be about 3 or 4 weeks before it arrives from Hong Kong but if Nissan and Hayman Reese haven't derived a solution by then it may enable us to add to the information we have already provided.

Happy New Year to you all

Re: T31 Tailgate Rubbing on rear bumper

Jalal,
I would say that the mounting of the HR and Nissan towbars would be identical and causing the problem.
The 2 towbars could still be different in the way the goosneck is made or attached or the position of where the main bar sits.
Agreeing with Tony that the only way to see any similarities or differences would be to get the 2 side-by-side for a visual comparison check.

Re:

Kev,

Unlike the T30 xtrail, there are NO alternatives to mount the towbar on the T31 model, it is exactly the same mounting method for ALL types of towbars!
