Re: T31 bash plate
G'Day,
I thought I would post the below info so everyone is aware.
I heard on the grapevine TJM had bash plates in stock which I thought was a bit odd. So from a curiousity aspect thought I would find out some more info first hand. It proved an eye opening experience (not surprised though, as use to be a senior procurement officer) as follows:
1. Contacted one store and got told the bash plate was 4mm alloy. He didnt know if problem had been fixed, but quickly changed to 'yes it was fixed as they had stock'.
2. Contacted another store who advised plate was 3mm steel with SA5 coating (as per info on underbody guards on website). When I advised another rep had told me they were 4mm alloy, he then checked and advised that under 'Whats New' on website the plate was actually 3mm alloy. He had never heard there was a problem with the plate, but would make some enquiries.
How surprising, to find out there is currently a QA hold on the bash plate, due to a vibration problem. Pity first store rep does not know about this and would have gladly installed one. They do not expect problem to be fixed for a while yet.
Hence, why Jalal is importing more bash plates. Cant wait to receive mine
When I asked why the plate was alloy and not steel the reply I received was 'they did not believe the X-Trail needed that much protection underneath, therefore it did not need a steel one'
Personally, the more protection I can get for the Exy underneath, especially given the clearance, the better.
This just goes to prove the info on this forum is fantastic and invaluable, research is important, you can not fully believe some of the info given by reps and it pays as a consumer (no matter what your buying) to make enquiries, even within the same supply chain.

Re: T31 bash plate
I have also given-up on the TJM one and was dealing directly with their head-office in Sydney. After seeing it in person and the way it is attached and what it was made of, it wasn't worth the trouble perusing it any further.
Sometimes it is just better and more practical to get what you know will fit by 100% and what has already been proven a success, regardless of the intentions to support a local aussie business, as this is what I wanted to do when I chased-up TJM and wanted to get them on board.
I have also been informed that some of their bash plates are being manufactured in China and this would explain why it hasn't been test fitted before mass production. The T31 bash plates I am getting are coming from Europe where the T31 diesel and petrol xtrails were released before Australia, so there has been plenty of research and development done over there before it got finally released.
The same process will now apply to the rear bash plate for the T31 which I am developing through the same company in Europe

Re: T31 bash plate
I went to my local TJM today and enquired about a FUG for the T31.
One guy had no idea but his mate new about everything.
He told me that the way they fix the problem with it rubbing on the engine mount is agter fitment, they take it around the block and remove it to see where it is rubbing. Then simply drill a hole big enough using a hole saw to clear the engine mount.
Sounds bodgey I know, but thats what they are doing to fix the problem.
It is made from 3mm aluminium.
It has a hole to access the sump plug, so no need to remove bash plate.
It costs $195.00 +fitting which is a damn good price IMO.
I also mentioned the forum group buy and he was amazed that head office never chased it up.
Oh well, their loss.

Re: T31 bash plate
There you go.
I wonder what will be left of this FUG if they keep cutting holes in it to fix the problem? LOL
It's aluminium (not steel), so cutting extra holes in it in addition to the sump plug one will only weaken its structure even more, but I guess you get what you pay for at the end and if that is the type of protection some people want, it is available to them of course.

Re: T31 bash plate
You're welcome Dan.
I am emailing all members that have enquired about this bash plate, so they don't miss-out, as I prefer to have these bash plates first sold to members of the forum as a priority before offering them to the general public and overseas xtrailers.
