Looking at accommodation and it really starts at $1.00 a night upto any price you want to pay for.

The $1 a night is pure basic emoticon

Fantastic idea,

Given the area, the Flying Doctor could be an appropriate charity.

I'll send off an email tonight to see what can be done and what is necessary to make a donation of this kind etc.

Re: A National X-Trail Get Together

This sounds like a great idea - We will certainly be planning to attend - assuming holidays available etc.

We are currently planning a trip next May from Adelaide to the Kimberleys (passing through Alice both ways). I am struggling to fit everything in the five weeks planned, but if this trip goes to Alice, then I can leave all our red centre sightseeing till then!

Will definitely keep an eye on this one!

Sounds like fun, 5000 km this year from Sydney to Perth and then another 5000 km next year from Perth to/from Alice Springs. emoticon

Count me in too for this trip. I hope someone else from Perth/WA will join as well.

Re: A National X-Trail Get Together

Hi Guys,

I will soon create a new thread for the selection of this event organizing committee from each state and nominations will be welcome in that thread.

We will need 3 members to be part of this committee from each participating state, so start thinking about it and consider volunteering if you wanna be part of the committee.

We also need to consider the best time to have this event and the most obvious choice is during school holidays.
HERE is a list of national school holidays and terms.

Hi Jalal and everyone else

It appears that NSW is the only state that have their 3rd term school holidays in October, whereas all the other states & territories are mid-to-late September through to October. Would it not be a better idea to meet when most members can get time off?

As you all may know, I have been planning a similarly long trip into the red centre and have picked up a heap of good advice (from Brett, Alex & Dave). We will now probably hold off on the proposed June departure to ensure we don't miss out on the National X-Trail Get Together (I cannot see us taking 2 x months off in the one year to go to the same place emoticon - my business partner would have a pink fit! ) later in the year emoticon

Jalal, has any decision / clearer idea been made as to when the meet-up is likely to take place? And can anyone tell me when the wet season officially starts? I would love to go via the Plenty Highway, but not if the roads are too wet.

That is correct Steve, but NSW can't start any earlier than the 3rd of October because it is not a good idea to have the school kids miss the last week of the term to be inline with all other states and leave in late September, while other states can start the 4th term late by one week in October without affecting the school kids (nothing much happens in the first week of school term when the kids are back)

I am proposing we take a week leave starting from 3rd of October and this would be the day to leave your home state (or Friday the 2nd of October if you can) and make your way to Alice Springs. I believe this location is the most central to all states and would attract many members.

Here is what I found on the net about the wet and dry seasons in NT:

The Wet is between November and April with temperatures averaging 33-35° C during the day dropping to an average of 23-25° C overnight. The Dry is between May and October with temperatures averaging 30-32° C during the day dropping to an average of 20-22° C overnight.

We should get the ball rolling as they say and get this off the ground.

Sounds like we are starting to work on a date now and we all can organize our work commitments and school commitments to suit.
