Eg. Exy has 10k service intervals. I get oil & filter 5,000km after book service       Ute has 15k service intervals. I get oil & filter 7,500km after book service Ben, Regardless of the oil used, stick to the intervals listed in the book as a MINIMUM and get it serviced on time wherever possible. Would you buy a used vehicle with a haphazard service history or missed services? I sure wouldn't! A well looked after used vehicle with a comprehensive service history is always going to sell quicker & command a price premium, not to mention increase the likelihood of trouble free motoring. You will also find in the service manual, that every manufacturer has recommendations relating to additional/supplementary servicing for special use/arduous conditions such as; - Constant high speed driving - Operation in constant high temperature environment - Operation in constant cold temp environment (snow) - Constant stop/start & short distance driving The first two certainly apply to my Exy, so I have my oil & filter replaced mid service as recommended by the manufacturer. Regular oil changes are far cheaper than a new engine!    nondisclosed_email@example.com (Charlie250)Thu, 11 Sep 2014 12:15:04 +0000 Re: How far over in kms should we exceed before servicehttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2084428,from=rss#post2084428https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2084428,from=rss#post2084428I can't see why it wouldn't be any less relevant 6yrs on ... So had my 30,000km (@ 28,650) service done 19/4. Then did my own oil (Castrol Magnatech Proffessional 15W40) at about 34,000km at end of June. Now driven about 40,300km 1/8 and I'm thinking a 40,000km service should be almost due now. Or, do you think I could hold off a lil while longer seeing as though I've done 6,000km Isa to Sydney return in 3wks? Any comments on the 40,000km service I should know about too? Noticed it listed changing differential oil plus a few extra inspections. How will I know if the dealer completes all the checks and changes it should? The additive pack in all engine oils contains some zinc and phosphorous compounds that protect the engine and others that neutralise acids. When spent, the acid builds up from the combustion process and cold starts become quite damaging from lack of zinc etc. Engine wear is mainly corrosion from any acids and cold starts after the zinc etc additive is spent. All the above means Non synthetic and Semi synthetic oils last at most, around 8 to 10,000kms under normal conditions. Short runs and minimal actual long periods at operating temperature shorten this to around 5,000kms. Oil deteriorates over time as well so 6 months maximum life is also an issue. During cold weather even 3 months can see the oil needing replacing. In the southern states changing oil according to the MAD principle is good ie in May, August and December. Therefore as a minimum ALWAYS change your oil and filter at least every 10,000kms, Change the oil as soon as you can if over due. Return to your normal 6 months or 10,000kms when due.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Translucidus)Fri, 04 Jul 2014 23:10:29 +0000 Re: How far over in kms should we exceed before servicehttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2017647,from=rss#post2017647https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2017647,from=rss#post2017647Well just got back from dropping my car back to the dealers for her 20,000 (24,560). I am going to get it serviced this Monday as planned then again at around 32,000 and then my 40,000. Over the 10% at work it goes down as a warning against the lease holder or in the case of the trucks the caretaker. In saying that we have serviced a commodore VE from the car pool we serviced it at 15000km and then seen it again at 72000km and the oil was sent for testing and we normally get result back to the effect that this oil is still within a acceptable range and the the breakdown this oil had recommended for no return. we could not even put it in our oil catchment to be sent for refinement that's bad, we flushed the engine and it is noisy now we are monitoring it nondisclosed_email@example.com (Dave4x4)Sat, 11 Oct 2008 18:26:09 +0000 Re: How far over in kms should we exceed before servicehttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2017569,from=rss#post2017569https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2017569,from=rss#post2017569I always take mine either 800kms before or 800kms after the nominated number of kms for servicing, as I don't like to mess-up the schedule. Last time I went on a trip to the Gold Coast, I had it serviced 2000kms before the due date, so the next service I did 12,000kms of driving before taking it again.nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Sat, 11 Oct 2008 16:22:28 +0000 How far over in kms should we exceed before servicehttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2017562,from=rss#post2017562https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2017562,from=rss#post2017562Hi everyone, Just wanted to know about the excessive kms I have been doing lately. Booked my car in for a service back in August this year to do the 20,000 and thought at that time I would be pushing to get there before the end of October and wanted to get it done before our Trip down south (the trip is now canceled) but my main problem is that I have done so many kms of late that when she goes in on Monday she will be over by 6,000 km . I did contact Nissan earlier to see what they thought and said to stick to the original date. I am now wondering as it is so close to the 30,000 would I be better to get her serviced again at 35,000 or the 30,000. I am going to ask at service time myself about this but would like to know anybody's thoughts about this matter.
