Get rid of water in my Exy

G'day Guys (and Girls)

I got my Exy bogged down to the dif the other weekend in a puddle that was deeper then i thought, I ended up with about 4-5 inches of muddy creak water in the car. I thought I got it all out when I got home but after the smell hung around for over a week I had a closer look and found that there was a bit of water still in the foam under the carpet.

The question I have is can I just park my Exy in the sun for a few hours with the sun roof open and let it all evap out or should I try and get it out sooner due to the risk of rusting??

Also I have been told that under the carpets there are rubber plugs you can take out to drain water? If this is true how do you lift the carpet to get to the plugs??

Thanks in advance.

Re: Get rid of water in my Exy

Hi Brenton,

I'd get it dried as quickly as possible to avoid any rust problems in the future.

You can hire an industrial type blower fans which you can direct inside the car to get it dry, but the first thing you need to do is remove the rear seats from their place to get to under the carpet area there. You will also see the drain plugs in the floor as soon as you remove the seats.

Removing the entire floor carpet is a huge job and will require all seats to be removed, so I suggest you try the big hot air fan first and dry the carpet under the rear seats as much as you can to see if that'll help.

Failing that, call a detailer and they'll know what to do.

Re: Get rid of water in my Exy

On past cars, the drain plugs are on the underside of the car - i.e. get to them underneath the car.

But I would suggest a detailer as well. Get your carpets and seats wet vac'd. They'll suck the mud and dirt back through the foam and most use a refreshing scent as well so it will smell like new. When I sold my Exy I spent $250 getting it completely detailed. The carpet cleaning was about $100 of that. The amount of crap that came out of my seats and carpet was amazing - and I hadn't got it stuck to the point of letting water in.

Since you are in WA - I can recommend that same person - will send you a PM.

Would hitting it with a wet and dry vac help at all do you think?

Yeah it certainly would - that's what the detailers use, but they use a 'secret' carpet cleaner with new car odour in it. I say secret because I asked what they used and they wouldn't tell me hehehe.
