Turbo Diesel Cruise Control
Hi all diesel xtrail owners
A question about cruise control, does the power increase on a hill to compensate or does the transmission kick down.

Re: Turbo Diesel Cruise Control
Hi
Yes the power increases to compensate for the hill. Mine is a manual, so of course it doesn't kick down, but in other auto's I've driven cruise will increase the power, then kick down a gear if needed.
The great thing about the turbo diesel is because it has so much torque, there wouldn't be too much need for the auto to kick down.
I can accelerate up hills at 100km in 6th gear!!
Perhaps an auto diesel owner can better answer...if we have any

Re: Turbo Diesel Cruise Control
I don't understand why anyone would get the auto in diesel, the manual is sooo sweet and has more power....
Still each to their own
Like Fangios said, the cruise control works great, mine powers up hills no probs. But I have a manual as well, so can't comment on it dropping down.
Cheers,
Chris.

Re: Turbo Diesel Cruise Control
To answer why auto in diesel - simple the last time my wife drove a manual was when she was learning to drive and did $1500 damage to the driving school's car (trashed gearbox). I only picked the exy up yesterday and havn't used the cruise control so I can't say what it does up hill. The trip to Oberon on the weekend should answer that question for you....

Wasn't there a time when you had to get your driving license in a manual? One wonders if there is a correlation with general driver ability and being able to get a license to drive auto trans cars only.
Alan no disrespect intended to your wife as I am sure she is not alone. My wife smoked the clutch on my VW Bora V6 by riding it and asked the fast food outlet while she was waiting whether their kitchen was on fire Needless to say she doesn't drive it anymore.
However the T31 diesel in manual as others will attest, is an absolute delight. I set the cruise on 110km/hr and it will hold it religiously without any hunting etc.

Re: Turbo Diesel Cruise Control
So much for the theory than Lapstone Hill would be steep enough to make the transmission kick down - it didn't but it didn't slow either. Looks like "The Beast" will no longer get to play in the country - the exy is far too much more fun....

I drive up Lapston hill every day, if no one gets in front of me, I get up there in 6th gear very easily.
