Hi every i was just wondering if any one had used or know if nissan (if i supply for service) will use valvoline Synpower MST 5W30 it seems to tick all the boxes.

I don't think there will be a problem Jason. I supply 7.5 ltrs of a Castrol low SAPS oil at each service and my Nissan dealer is happy to use it.

Just be sure that you check that the Valvoline oil you're proposing to use is definitely a C3 oil....but I would expect that your dealer would check that anyway and alert you if it didn't meet spec for the M9R engine.

Jeff.

Thanks Jeff

The valvoline is c3. I got the guy at the local Castrol/ valvoline distributor to call the tech center just to make sure and it is ok for the T31 deisels.

thanks for your help Jason.

Re: T31 M9R diesel oil

Like some others we have been using Penrite oils (Oz Made ... and owned too we think) for many many years.

We have run Penrite Enviro+ 0W40 in our T31 for the last 5000Km without any problems at all. Same ... if not a little better fuel economy than whatever stuff Von Bibra Nissan at Southport (QLD) put in it when they did our 10K service (25K on the clock now). Dunno what it was, but their sticker said Valvoline.

The specs are correct, and we will be continuing to use this oil for the forseeable future. How about that viscosity range ... should cover pretty well whatever OZ can throw at it!

The stuff is stocked by most Autobarn stores from what we can see .... and if you time your purchases to coincide with their 20% off everything sales (usually 1-2 per year ... they had one 2 weekends ago in QLD), you'll save a fair bit of dosh. RRP (at Autobarn) is around $54 for the 5 litre pack - you'll need two for the oil change.

Our RACQ mechanic advises that the oil drain plug is something unique to Nissan though .... so don't try this at home!! They had to have a part fabricated to fit their gear to get the darned thing off!! At least we'll be right for the future changes though.

Hope all of this helps.

The more I read this the more I get confused.

Having dug around a little bit I've found the following data so far to compliment what's come out in this thread:

bugga, hasn't formatted too well. Can't get a tab to work. emoticon If I could get courier i'd have a chance...
The issue really is the choices of oil. I know I haven't got close to all the brands yet.
I'm going to search to see if I can find out what the difference between 0W and 5W is. The data that each manufacturer provides is at 40C and 100C, and at 40C the 5W has a lower viscosity... I thought the 0W should have the lower cold viscosity. Anyways. I'll continue collecting data and then try to work out how I can make it readable for the forum.

Re: T31 M9R diesel oil

Managed a quick visit to the Nissan Dealer yesterday.

They use Mobil1 ESP 5W30 for the M9R.

ACEA C2/C3
SAE 5W30
KinematicViscosity>40C = 72.8
KinematicViscosity>100C = 12.1
ViscosityIndex = 164
HTHS = 3.58

Any suggestions as to where I might be able to find this stuff in Melbourne?
Doesn't show up on Supercheap's online store.

Thx

Was talking about the difference in oils in the service department and this gentleman(who was waiting for his car) said that the correct oil for most Nissan diesel vehicles was one with the lowest ash content!

Now can I have someone explain this to me in simple terms pleaseemoticon

Scot,

Low Ash oil is an oil standard that complies with newer emission control for diesel engines. More detailed explanation HERE
