I can't get the pics you put up but I'll take your word for it.
It looked like it was made from steel in the other pic. Must have been the angle it was on.
Also I radio guy was telling me that a UHF radio ariel works better attatched to the rear of the car, near the roof. He says that it uses the roof of the car as a grounding platform to send and recieve a signal.
Attatched to a bull bar/nudge bar, it can't properly bridge the distance between the bar and the bonet.
I have always had mine on the bar and never had any dramas.

Wow, that didn't take long at all to get to you.
I bet you had fun unpacking it which usually takes longer than installing the bash plate itself
