Re: Thinking about oversized tyres on T31
When I had my Patrols', I was driving on 33 x 12.5 x 15 BFG's, the tyres were massive, especially when you took them off.
In the 18 odd years that I have had 4wd's, I never had any dramas regarding police, RTA or rego inspections. I used to get more worried about window tint than tyres.
Imho, I think everyone is worried about nothing.
As Stephen and Paul said, virtually 70% of large 4wd's on the road have oversized tyres on them. So long as they don't extend past the guard too much and they look justified to the vehicle, I say do what you want.
The worst that I assume could happen is that the authorities will tell you to remove them from your vehicle. If you play dumb, that will be the worst that could happen.

Re: Thinking about over-sized tyres on T31
Sorry Tony,
I don't agree with your advice and our forum is not the place to recommend any illegal fittings of tyres or anything else.
Getting defected for having the wrong/illegal size tyres is real and can happen to anyone, but that is not the only problem you can face. Your insurance policy can be rejected if you are to have an accident with illegal tyres.

Re: Thinking about oversized tyres on T31
After re- reading my last post I have to agree that it did sound a little 'harsh'.
I didn't intend to make it sound that I was saying to do what you wanted, I was only going on my past history.
I did have an accident with oversized tyres on where I ran up the back of the car in front of me, ( totalled the other car) there was no problem with insurance.
I will re think next time my fingers go crazy on the keyboard.

Re: Thinking about oversized tyres on T31
Hi Trev,
They certainly seem to fill the guards well. Had though about getting 235's but was concerned that they might stick out a little from the guards and/or rub on the underside of the guards on full lock particularly when off-road when the suspension is getting a bit of a workout as well.
Have you had any problems with the tyres fouling the guards on full lock?
Are your wheels the same offset and width as the standard Nissan 17" alloys? If so, could you get a photo down the side of the car to see how much they (if any) the tyres stick out from the guards?
Also, did you get a spare in the same size or just keep the old one? Would one of these fit in the spare wheel well?
Cheers,
--- Paul
