Re:

so VicRoads didn't get back to me (no surprise) but I found a reasonable deal for BFG MUD-TERRAIN T/A KM2
235/70R16 ... however they don't fit since the wheels have less offset than the originals

Grrr ...

I guess I just buy the BS D697 again or does anyone have an idea to increase clearance in the front wheel arches?

Re:

Some bad logic there ... you need to buy rims that suit, not cut into your car to gain clearance for a interchangeable component. I fit 235/70/16 without any dramas, my offset is slightly off but that makea me scrub the wheel flare, not the front of the wheel well itself, and only when im being rough with thr car.

I use a Series II's T31 16" steels - no probs fitting 235/70/16 after Pedders lift.

Nightcaching, just FYI but I spoke to the ACT Roads and Traffic guys, and they said that while X-trail is MC plated, its not a 'vehicle designed for off road use' as per the VSB, and therefore the 50mm rule doesn't apply.

YMMV with your VIC registry, but get their answer in writing!!!

Have ACT not adopted VSI6? The MC plating and 50mm limit is a thing of the past. Everything is now 7% or less increase in overall diameter. Go back 2 pages in this thread to see the link and details.

I thought Darren (Augustus) checked that with VIC Roads and got it confirmed as well?

Re: Thinking about oversized tyres on T31

Hi Gals & Guys, Bob Jane has only just upgraded their system to the 7% ruling in Victoria, they will never sell of fit anything that does not comply unless you sign a waiver, I was not required to as they are just under, (4mm under) according to the 7% ruling.

I had the manager refuse to fit them only 2 weeks ago, as they would not show in his system as complying, they now do. So who is right?

I've had VicRoads give me the run around on tyres before and gotten several different answers before it was clarified properly, every time the ruling eventually came back as what the Bob Jane guys had told me in the first place.

If for any reason I was ever picked up and told that my tyres weren't legal I'd just refer them to the local Bob Jane for clarification.

In my Younger years I had lots of issues with over sized tyres and the Police, usually with the width on my barely street legal drag cars. But the local boys eventually gave up as I was always in the right, either they were dealer recommended fitment or covered by an engineering certificate. It also helped that I never laid rubber in town!

So I'm still fitting my KM2s to our Boy Augustus as they were dealer recommended.

Have a great day, Happy Snappin' Darren J Callesen AKA Augustus the X Trails Dad emoticon

PS, they are not yet fitted as the new 16"X7" CSA SHAKER wheels are going in for powdercoating tomorrow. I'll post some photos once coated and fitted. emoticon

ACT website still has this as their policy for 'Light Vehicle Modifications'
http://www.rego.act.gov.au/assets/PDFs/Light%20Vehicle%20Modifications%20in%20the%20ACT.pdf

Which points the VSB14
http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/vehicle_regulation/bulletin/vsb_ncop.aspx

Not sure about the MC plating and 50mm limit being a thing of the past? I haven't found anything, and last I spoke with ACT Rego, they advised that the X-trail is a softroader.

It's a thing of the past in NSW. VSI6 has been adopted here and there is no differentiation between vehicles. 7% increase in diameter across the board.

Yeah... ACT is still clinging onto VSB14.

VSI6 seems to be a NSW thing yeah? Or is it applicable in other states?
