Re: TEST DRIVE REPORT- T31 Diesel Automatic

The main reason I bought the diesel was for fuel economy reasons, I haven't even driven a petrol version.
After owning the diesel x-trail manual for 2 weeks now (almost 1500kms) I would say that take off from the line is pretty slow, but between 2000 - 4000 revs the power comes on relatively strongly. So its not unsatisfying to drive, but I wouldn't want any less power. Then again, I have been driving V6 magnas and commodores for the last 8 years, so from a 2 litre engine its pretty good.

I agree - however it is deceptively quick too.

With driving a diesel (particularly a manual), one soon learns to optimise for torque instead of simply revving it.

This is what i found after getting my diesel mazda, Im the kind of person that likes to use the whole rev range of a car, but with a diesel you need to keep it in its torque band ( for me its about 1700 to 2500 rpm). Do this and diesels are very impressive!! The thing i love most is not needing to drop back a gear or 2 to overtake, simply put your foot down and go!
