You would also do head checkes driving a car just like a motorbike. The convex mirrors provide a wider view but I don't like them due to them giving a false proximity/distance of objects.nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Thu, 27 Dec 2012 21:06:54 +0000 Re: Side mirrors are dangerous!https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2069617,from=rss#post2069617https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2069617,from=rss#post2069617So if I read this right, the T30's have a flat mirror...does anyone have a part number to get the convex ones? If I can't get convex mirrors, I'll just use the round small ones from supercheap like I have on my past 2 cars. I am amazed that most people don't like the convex mirrors. It was something I miss greatly from my R32 Skyline. Mirrors are for a quick glance, you should always do a head check as well before changing lanes. If you have ever ridden a motorcycle, you will know exactly why you should do head checks (and also know how awesome convex mirrors are for bikes as well!) nondisclosed_email@example.com (chrisgrind)Thu, 27 Dec 2012 20:31:22 +0000 Re: Side mirrors are dangerous!https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2069615,from=rss#post2069615https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2069615,from=rss#post2069615Thanks for the mirror removal instructions - just took out mine to get rid of spiders. On my little Corolla, I fitted the 50cent size convex mirror to each of the external "flat mirrors", love them. Now with my new Nissan, I am in heaven. If I can see a vehicle pretty good in the external mirror in another lane - they are really really close. I know some women who say, they can't judge distance. Then say - only a bloke would design these. To me they are a safer way to go. Albeit, you have to get used to them. Works really well. Perhaps a solution is to acquire a ~30mm wide piece of mirror that is the height of the original and glue it to the inner section of the existing; or buy a mirror insert that has a flat section (from Kia maybe!!!!) I think if you glued a flat section the effect might be confusing and dangerous as side mirrors often only get a quick glance. Need to experiment and be careful.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Translucidus)Sun, 13 May 2012 17:40:55 +0000 Re: side mirrorshttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2062099,from=rss#post2062099https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2062099,from=rss#post2062099Hi, I like the side mirrors, as the view to the rear is very limited using the internal rear vision mirror. I have found that to look at both mirrors frequently when a vehicle is approaching gives me a good idea as to the distance you have to adjust your sight. I have found that the external mirrors do not give a blind spot. I also ride a Harley Davidson, these rear view mirrors are the same as Exy and I love them - yep, distance is hard to judge, but if you can see them up close in your mirror - they are b-----dy close. Better that you see them than pull out in front of them due to a blind spot. Safe driving to you all. Anyhow, I am very happy with the result - hard to tell that they are not original mirrors (except they are flat). I added a little blind spot mirror (because that is now an issue). I think I now have a good solution - I can easily tell how far behind a vehicle is when I see it in my mirror, and the blind spot mirrors alert me when there is a vehicle there.nondisclosed_email@example.com (emkay100)Sun, 12 Oct 2008 19:47:32 +0000 Re: Side mirrors are dangerous!https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2017413,from=rss#post2017413https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2017413,from=rss#post2017413Sounds a bit brutal breaking the glass. I went to my Nissan dealer and ordered new mirror lenses for a 2002 X-Trail and quoted the part numbers given on this site. They cost $45 each but had to be specially ordered in. They arrived the next day and I changed them over that night - it's a pretty weird job replacing them. They come out alright but I was worried about getting the new ones back on properly - took a fair bit of pushing. I was expecting a nice, solid click to say they were properly seated - this doesn't happen. You can pull the bottom out just far enough to squeeze a finger in and check that the plate is seated snugly at the back. Went out for a drive to try them and was motoring along enjoying the clear view out the right hand side; then glanced across to the left and ...... oh my god! the left mirror was not flat! I went home and checked carefully. Yep - definitely a curved mirror. I thought maybe I had been silly enough to put the old mirror back on, but no, this was the new one. I went back to see my dealer and he showed me on the computer that the same part is used on all model X-Trails (up to the new shape). He said the part numbers I quoted were a group number (or something). He would not take the mirror back as it was a special order. A bit dejected .... I went to see the local glazier on the off chance they might be able to do something. He said yeah.... we smash the old mirror out and cut another piece to replace it. cost - $30 including glueing back in the mount. I had them do this and picked it up next day. I am now very happy with the mirrors.nondisclosed_email@example.com (emkay100)Wed, 10 Sep 2008 21:13:11 +0000 Re: Side mirrors are dangerous!https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2015414,from=rss#post2015414https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2015414,from=rss#post2015414thanks - always been wary of mirrors and breaking them!!nondisclosed_email@example.com (popeclement)Fri, 15 Aug 2008 21:57:09 +0000 Re: Side mirrors are dangerous!https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2015333,from=rss#post2015333https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2015333,from=rss#post2015333It was'nt hard but keep in mind not to use excessive force or you could damage the mirror tilt motors. I started by tilting the mirror top in bottom out. The bottom of the mirror mounting plate should unclip by pulling at right angles to the surface. The mirror is then pulled out and down to release from the upper attachment.. I attached the new mirrors with silastic and when it was set I used black silastic around the edges to make it blend in. I think some mirror suppliers can actually do the mirror removal if you dont feel confident. nondisclosed_email@example.com (mistatee)Thu, 14 Aug 2008 16:00:37 +0000 Re: Side mirrors are dangerous!https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2015128,from=rss#post2015128https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2015128,from=rss#post2015128How easy was this to do? The T30 requires some force to unclip it. In fact I get nervous every time I do that thinking the lens will crack, but as long as you hold it from the side and don't apply too much pressure on the mirror surface, you should be fine.nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Tue, 29 Jul 2008 20:05:17 +0000 Re: Side mirrors are dangerous!https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2014774,from=rss#post2014774https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2014774,from=rss#post2014774Thanks guys for the info .
