Re:
Unless your mechanic has access to ECU software updates, there is no chance of getting that done by any independent mechanic, as Nissan don't give out their software updates to anyone.

Re: T31 Cruise control issues

The guys in UK (and other countries in Europe) are suffering from this problem as well and this problem has presented itself with the 2011 Series 3 & 4 models as well.
The new shape T31 xtrail is registering a fault in the ECU when the cruise control starts to play-up and the error code is related to an upstream air pressure sensor.
Here is a link to the sensor part number (probably UK related) of the upstream air sensor which was replaced on a UK forum member's T31 Xtrail and the cruise control has been reported as working correctly since.

Re:
That's a weird one indeed. What's the O2 sensor gotta do with the cruise control? By the way guys, that part number is for 2.0LT T31 Diesel, as they don't have the 2.5LT Petrol T31 in the UK. The O2 sensor part number for other models could be different.

Re:
Hi Guys,
I just remembered this thread.
On my latest run to Wollongong I was very happy with the way the cruise control was working and how smooth the car ran with the cruise control compared to the T30 which always used to hunt for gears on an uphill section. My happiness was short lived as soon as I hit a slope section of the hill and my T31 accelerated from the set 110kms/hour to close to 125kms/hour as if the cruise control wasn't there at all.
I will tell the dealer about this and ask them to inspect the cruise control because I don't think that is normal at all.

Re:
The problem is that you really need to find a good dealer who is willing to take your car for an extended test drive on the highway to see how the cruise is working and most dealers don't wanna do that and spend time.

Re:
I had no troubles with mine at all.
When it accelerated up a hill, it only did by about 5km/h and then continued to accelerate at the crest of the hill untill it started to decelerate back to the set speed.

Yeah, if it wasn't for my long run on the weekend, I would have probably never found out until the October forum trip

Re: Cruise Control Issues
Hi Jalal,
It comes as a surprise the issue you had with the cruise control, when having just completed a 5000klm round trip to Melbourne, Jindabyne, Sydney then home and 3000klm of this was probably done with the cruise on. It is great to see the CVT working in conjunction with the cruise to keep the speed even and smooth. There were some down hill stretches that I gave the brakes the occasional tap to keep under the limit, knowing how you southern folk have fully embraced the use of speed cameras. Is there a separate module which does the Cruise Control or is it a part of the Engine Control Module? Really wish I had the Series 3 workshop manual.
You are correct in saying the dealer will have problems replicating this fault. One suggestion would be to mount a web cam just in front of the steering wheel off the surrounds there. Go back over the same area and see if you get the same result, this time you can have it recorded on your laptop. I've been playing with Picture in picture using 2 web cams which I hope to have going for the October trip, the outside view is the main screen with an inset of the dash showing the rpm, speed and gear selection. As with faults that only occur occasionlly, the more info you can give them, the better.
Regards
John
