T31 Cruise control issues
I would be interested to hear from T31 owners about any issues they may have with the cruise control. I call it a "Clayton's cruise control" ... the cruise control you have when you're not having a cruise control!
Notwithstanding the owner's manual's comment about not using it in hilly areas (we're flat country around here), I find the following problems with mine:
1/. I have to activate it at a speed about 5 to 6 km/h above the speed I want to cruise at.
2/. After activation, it slowly loses speed as stated in 1/. above, but then won't necessarily maintain that speed. The slightest rise (or dip) in road slope will result in speed deviations of up to 6 km/h.
3/. If I use the speed increase/decrease switch, nothing happens for about five seconds, then it gives a sudden surge (or slowdown) which cannot be limited to a minor speed change ... again, between 5 or 6 km/h change is the minimum that can be attained.
Trying to maintain 100 k/mh on our flat freeway is virtually impossible. I have owned cruise control cars before and none of them was like this. It is quite unsuitable for avoiding speeding infringements. Cruise control technology isn't exactly "rocket surgery" these days and I'm quite disappointed considering the price of the vehicle. I intend to report it when the 10,000 km service comes up in about 3 months but expect to get fobbed off.
If anyone else has any experience with this problem (and Nissan's responses) I would be interested to hear.

Re: T31 Cruise control issues
I'm not sure exactly how the cruise control works as far as recognising current vehicle speed, but it sounds like there might be a speed sensor fault, or a bad connection somewhere.
My T30 cruise control is very precise, and immediately drops or increases 1.5kph using the respective steering-wheel buttons. It is abit laggy on hill-climbs, but like you mentioned, it is not intended for that type of terrain. On flat highways and slight hills (up or down), it will precisely maintain constant speed.
As you said, you've driven other vehicles with cruise control and haven't experienced the same issues. If I were you, I'd be taking it back to Nissan to look at it as a warranty issue. Not that I would expect it to be the cause, but did you do an ECU reset after installing the K&N filter? Don't let them try to convince you that it is the K&N filter's fault

What's this gotta do with the cruise control Rich? LOL
I suspect a faulty cruise control throttle sensor here John, so you better take it to the dealer to fault find.

Re: T31 Cruise control issues
Thanks for the replies guys. I'll leave it until the 10,000 km service and report it to Nissan then. That should only be about 12 weeks away. I didn't do an ECU reset after fitting the K&N filter because several days went by while we worked out where the ECU fuse was located. John.

Re: T31 Cruise control issues
I've had no problems with mine.
In fact its one of the best cruise control's I have ever had on a car, precise, keeps speed up and down hills and works almost imediately.
You've definately got a bug in the sensor.
Or maybe not re-setting the ECU has something to do with it.
