Re: Roof bar keys
Nope Kev, the Rhino Sportz Roof Racks are not key lockable, they're allen key lockable. And eve the allen key used was a special security type of allen key that had a hole in the middle of it.
The Series II xtrail came with roof racks that uses actual keys to lock them in place, but am not sure if these keys are unique for each roof rack set, otherwise anyone would have been able to pinch one another's roof racks if they all shared the same key.
I believe Nissan should be able to provide a spare set of keys depending on the lock number, but it is not a Nissan manufactured item, so they need to contact the manufacturer for that, which I believe is Thule Roof Racks who made the series II ones for Nissan.

Re: Roof bar keys
Are you sure Jalal ?
I've got a Series 1 with genuine Nissan racks and mine come with the special allen key.
Mine are compatable with the Rolla sport racks as I am using some old Rola rack tie holders on them.

Re: Roof bar keys
Am pretty sure that the Nissan Series II roof racks use actual keys (not allen keys) and am also sure that Rhino Sportz (which I had before) used allen keys.
HERE are the Series II roof racks.

Re: Roof bar keys
A locksmith would be able to cut a key as I believe these are a standard type key so if you know the number they will be able to cut it for you.

yes guys the series to roof racks definitely do have a key and a sort of allen key thingy. The number on the key is a letter followed by 2 digits. (For example R17)
Hi Paul. That's the one! The key I ordered through the dealer (Keema Nissan on Logan Road, Mt Gravatt, QLD) was the allen key looking thing. I got my money back on that (but from reading the posts, I may need that to actually tighten it!) because I thought I simply needed the house key looking key!

ledbye, my first port of call would be to go through all of the documents that came with the car and see if you can trace the key number.
Yeah, I figure the number is 208. It's on the roof bar itself.

Failing that try to call Nissan direct as they may have the details on file, (call with you VIN number handy)
I'm hoping this is the case! There is nothing about it in the details. I think it's an extra so do you think the info would be stored in the VIN number?

I will have a look at the my roof racks tomorrow to see if the number on the lock corresponds with the key number.
Thanks mate - I'd really appreciate that! I was close to just stopping someone in a car park and asking them!!

As Jalal suggests Thule might be able to help you out, but if all else fails either leave them on or a locksmith...
I'm gonna see what our friend the internet has to say about that Failing that, I'll give them a call tomorrow!
Cheers guys, for all your replies!!
