We had a great time at the zoo at Dubbo (overnight camping in the zoo is something different that's for sure) and looking forward to a drive tomorrow. Got the Navman set up ready to go and will be there ready to go at 10am. No phone signal where I am staying so if anyone wants to call, better make it after 9am tomorrow. I have all the necessary recovery gear and hand held UHF which I will put on channel 24 until we meet up. Looking forward to meeting the Southern continget of the forum. nondisclosed_email@example.com (BlackThunda)Fri, 11 Jul 2008 17:01:48 +0000 Re: BlackThunda coming to NSWhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2014046,from=rss#post2014046https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2014046,from=rss#post2014046Date: 12.7.08 Time: 10.00am Location: Awaba State Forest Meet-up Point: The service station at the intersection of Freemans Drive and Palmers Road. As to where, people seem to he happy with my suggestion, or at least fairly easy about what we do, so I am suggesting we keep it at Freemans Waterhole at 10.00am. If you look at the map I put in my previous post you will see that Freemans Waterhole is just past the intersection of Freemans Drive and Palmers Road. However, there is a service station right at the intersection and I propose that we meet up there. Its a much easier landmark to find and we can be fueling up and tyre pressure down while we are waiting for each other. Had a ball It is called the Gap Road. It has a steep hill, water puddles, rocky ground, clay, etc. (though if it has not rained for a week then the clay will probably be a bit tame). All in all, a great challenge for an exy (and still a good challenge for an exy which has offroad tyres and has been raised). I had to get out and look a couple of times, to pick the way to approach things. I think a standard exy could do the track - just have to look at a couple more spots in advance before trying. It is just so much fun It is near Freemans Waterhole (which is about 30 min past the Ourimbah turnoff on the expressway). The track is about 14km and would take over 1 hour plus photo stops. (So for us that probably means closer to 2 hours ) See http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=Ourimbah&daddr=Freemans+Waterhole&sll=-32.978824,151.495028&sspn=0.027072,0.037422&ie=UTF8&ll=-32.985844,151.500435&spn=0.05414,0.074844&z=14 While it would be relaxed to get there for lunch and then those who want some dirt to do the track while others went home, I think it would be better to do the drive before lunch so that there is still a lot of daylight in case we need it. We could meet at Freemans Waterhole at, say 10.00. Then the dirt drivers could do the track and the tar drivers could hunt out a good picnic spot (using mobiles to tell the dirt people where to go). Then lunch. Then cruse off home (or for the brave, do the track in reverse). I will have to check my notes but there is easy dirt in the area too if some people want an inbetween alternative. If Yengo track is too tame, then the Watagans route we did with Zip' was pretty good, this also alows time for a social lunch & a social beer at the Wolombi Tav' at the end. Even if it rains datsun cogs, we know the cars can handle it, don't we Dave & Alex & Paul. After all, we wouldn't want Black Thunder going home thinking our idea of a 4wd meet is a gravel driveway would we. nondisclosed_email@example.com (DingoMouse)Wed, 02 Jul 2008 21:09:55 +0000 Re: BlackThunda coming to NSWhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2013776,from=rss#post2013776https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2013776,from=rss#post2013776Hi Jalal, Count me in. For what it's worth, the Yengo N.P idea offers both options (though fairly sedate dirt driving). The easiest access is via the Peats Ridge exit off the F3. We could meet along there somewhere???
