Re: DIESEL T31 X-TRAIL COMING JULY 2008

Hi Guys,

Was at the dealer's today and was told they they have ordered 6 diesel T31s which are on their way to the dealership. It doesn't look like they will get them this week though, but as soon as they do, they will call me in for a test drive and inspection.

Stay tuned.

Re: DIESEL T31 X-TRAIL COMING JULY 2008

Hi,

New poster, although I have been looking at this thread for awhile.. This is great site for research.

My wife and I are looking at a TL diesel, and went to two of the biggest nissan dealers in Perth yesterday, and were suprised by how much the dealers knew about these cars... e.g. not that much. None of them have seen one yet, even though they are supposed to be down at the docks two weeks ago.

What is even more worrying is the amount each dealer will get. One dealer said they were due to get 9 diesels(I mean for the whole year.... that's it no more.... They normal get 40 odd TI's a year.), 4 TS and 5 TLs. That means that it'll be a sellers market for them, so no discounts on them like you'd expect to get on a petrol model. Most new cars, you'd expect to be able to neg a 5% - 15% discount.

Do people think the diesel would be worth it, considering the $1k diff will probably grow to about $4K on drive away price?

Cheers,

Chris.

Re: DIESEL T31 X-TRAIL COMING JULY 2008

Hi Chris,
I would not consider the extra $4000 drive away price you mentioned because you should get most of that back at trade time as most diesel powered vehicles have a higher resale value than petrol equivalents. Whether the diesel will be worth it depends on personal preferences. I personally have been waiting a long time for this new diesel model to arrive & would have no hesitation in buying one after the glowing reports I have read from overseas. Either way, it does not matter if you buy a diesel or petrol powered X-Trail as they are both great models.

Cheers ! emoticon

Re: DIESEL T31 X-TRAIL COMING JULY 2008

Hi Chris

I am in Perth too and dropped into Total in Cannington - who did you see? I was advised mid next month

Sounds like colours and options may be very limited.

However very keen on the diesel and I think apart from the pricing difference, the low down torque is great when going off road. I run a Rexton diesel too which is a very good vehicle and enjoy both sand and hills offroad (took it to Lancelin yesterday for a frolic on the dunes with a few Xtrail friends and noticed how high they had to rev to get up some steep climbs - I would not have exceeded 2500rpm)

Cheers

John

Re: DIESEL T31 X-TRAIL COMING JULY 2008

Hi guys,

Yeah I suppose we'd get most of the 4k back at trade time, never thought of that. The diesel will be cheaper to run over the years as well. 360nm is awesome on a car that size and weight.

We aren't really concerned with colours, the lighter the better for taking bush.

I think it was John we spoke to at Total, that was two weeks ago and he told me they were coming in that week. Last weekend we went to Duncan nissan, who were hopeless, and Magic nissan, who were good. We spoke to Emily I think. We've left our details, so hopefully we'll get a drive sooner or later, theres no rush.

My wife is really keen on the x-trail, and while I like them as well, the new Forrester is also on my hit list... especially if subu follow nissan and bring out a diesel (prob won't be till next year).

How far further do you think the diesel will go offroad more than the petrol x-trail do you think?

Do you know that, according to Magic nissan, there are no parking sensors on the TL diesel?

Weird thing to leave off..

Cheers,

Chris.

Re: DIESEL T31 X-TRAIL COMING JULY 2008

Might drop in north of the river tomorrow and check Giant in Osb Pk and DVG in Morley and see what they have to say.

Interesting about the sensors - couldn't be the 'soot' from the diesel that might have an impact!

I want to swap out the head unit and put in a DVD/GPS/reversing camera unit anyway.

I used to have a Gen 1 Forester manual but I think the X-trail is a slightly larger than even the new model and the Renault sourced diesel in the manual version should be a ripper.

The only downside is the limited exit angle on the T31, which a tow bar might offer some protection against if mounted correctly.

Concur about the lighter colours - white is OK and looks good too.

John

Can't remember where I saw it, possible a Wheels magazine - but Subaru aren't bringing out diesels in the Libertys or Outbacks until 2010.

I don't think you'll get any further off road in a diesel Exy Chris, but I am sure you will get there easier.

Re: DIESEL T31 X-TRAIL COMING JULY 2008

I read something similar, but there are some rumors going around the web Subaru might bring out a diesel Forrester later this year... whether that turns out to be true, who knows.

Cool, guess I'll have to test drive both the diesel and petrol. I was a bit worried that the petrol might not have the same offroad ability as the diesel due to the lack of torque... but after looking around this site, and seeing where the guys have taken them I'm not concerned now.

Let us know what you hear John from the other dealers up north. Any ideas what a DVD/GPS/reversing camera unit would cost? Are they a nissan option, or a after market product?

It's a shame Nissan aren't bringing in more of them in, they really are going to be hard to buy for the next 6 - 12 months with long waiting lists.

Cheers,

Chris.
