Re: DIESEL T31 X-TRAIL COMING JULY 2008

I've been looking into different cars and worked out that if I got a three year lease, diesel would be a cheaper option even if the price of it went up at a similar rate to petrol. Diesel vehicles typically cost $3000 to $5000 more than the petrol equivalents. If you do 40000km a year (like I will be doing) then you recoup those costs in approximately two years, leaving the final year to be all pocketed savings (based on a 3 year lease - if you keep it longer, the better it is for you).

Also, it is worth noting that up to this time diesel resale values are typically much higher than petrol, but I do imagine this will change with the influx of diesel vehicles hitting the market at the moment.

I know that if I do get a diesel car, I will definitely be looking at gas conversion for it also, probably at a sacrifice to the torque.

How much torque sacrifice do you think LPG would do to the diesel Nathan ?

Re: DIESEL T31 X-TRAIL COMING JULY 2008

No idea to be honest. But having a quick look into it just then I found a few places that do gas shot injection, so it is used at the same time as the diesel to make a better burn. It actually increases torque and saves fuel by 20%... or it claims to anyway.

Who knows, might be a farce.

Re: DIESEL T31 X-TRAIL COMING JULY 2008

I was about to say that Nathan about the LPG shot into diesel as I dont believe there is a straight lpg use on a diesel engine and if there is it would shorten the life of the engine as the lubrication of burnt lpg is not like diesel.
We have a truck at work that some time ago went onto a trial of a diesel and LPG injection mix and by all reports works very well, the only reason it hasn't been implemented across the fleet is the inability to get the trucks close to LPG bowsers and then get them to the diesel bowsers, mind you this truck is 500hp and pulling B-double trailers around so you would think the x-trail would go alright with this done.

But the inconvenience of double-refilling at the servo could be off-putting.

Gday Nathan

Like you I am doing the sums to see if it is worth getting the diesel exy.
While I am not interested in diesel gas conversion I did read on another forum that the LPG rebate system does not apply to leased vehicles. emoticon
You may wish to look closer at that.
In NSW there is this website to read about http://www.gastek.com.au ( I know you are in W.A but it may give you some info.
Good luck with your decision
Regards
Kenny emoticon

Re: DIESEL T31 X-TRAIL COMING JULY 2008

Beauty of the modern diesels is it's easy to fit a free flowing exhaust and add a power up chip such as Safari dtronic and you can increase power and torque by close to 20% emoticon - worked a treat on my turbo diesel Landcruiser emoticon

cheers

Darryl,

The same can be done to the petrol exy as well emoticon It all depends how much you wanna spend on power mods at the end of the day.

Re: DIESEL T31 X-TRAIL COMING JULY 2008

I probably would have waited the extra months if I'd known in Nov last year that the diesel would be available so soon. When I purchased, the dealer kept saying, "don't know, if ever".
Ah well, them's the breaks!

I'm starting "to follow the sun" next week -up the Centre to Darwin via everything on the way, through The Kimberley to Broome, then home via the WA coast, Sth East and across the Nullabor. Will be a bit of an adventure as I suspect quite a few areas do not have many "wheelie nomads" visit them!

So, au revoir for a couple of months.
