Re: DIESEL T31 X-TRAIL COMING JULY 2008

This is indeed the news we have been waiting for. I knew the salesman was crapping on for a quick sale when he said there'd be no diesel variant in Oz. Mind you, we were mighty tempted to sign up for the Ti there and then but sanity prevailed (only just).

What a shame the 127kW engine is manual-only. Did I read that the 110kW tranny will be a CVT? I have read conflicting things about this.

Can't wait to drive one. Maybe that's the message the Nissan salesman left on my phone???

Re: DIESEL T31 X-TRAIL COMING JULY 2008

Hi Ade,

Lucky indeed and I guess you will get exactly what you have been waiting for.

I have just realized that I made an error previously when I talked about the engine type for the diesel. Looking at the UK Diesel specs for the T31, it turns out the diesel automatic doesn't come with CVT transmission and it is a 6 speed automatic transmission. The CVT is only available with the petrol models.

The diesel engine specs clearly show that the 127KW will only be available for the Manual xtrail diesel and the 6 speed auto diesel will have 110KW.

Any idea why they are using a different automatic on the diesel than the CVT on the petrol ?

Looks as though the CVT may not be as good as every one thinks and not able to handle the torque ?

I imagine that's the case. I think the Maxima uses a CVT, as does the Murano and that'd have to produce > 320 Nm, surely (too lazy to check :-(). Must not fit into the X-TRAIL.

Is the diesel x-trail being built in the UK rather than in Japan? If so that would explain the gearbox. There is not a very big market for autos in Europe so I imagine they would not bother with the CVT over there.

Also bear in mind that the diesel motor is a Renault motor.

Re: DIESEL T31 X-TRAIL COMING JULY 2008

Hi everyone.
I will soon be purchasing our new X-trail, but I am now a little confused by the introduction of the new diesel option. All the research I have done has only been on the petrol version and whilst diesel gives you a better fuel economy, the diesels tend to be dearer (fuel price, repairs & services, and overall purchase price).
I would like to know the opinions of members if they were given the choice of purchasing a new Ti /TL, which would they choose and which gearbox configuration. I plan to do a bit of sand and light off roading, but most of the time my wife will be playing with it in the traffic.
We are off to speak with the bank manager and broker next week, but I would appreciate some input from the forum to help me.
Thanks heaps in advance!
Stephen

Re: DIESEL T31 X-TRAIL COMING JULY 2008

Hi Stephen,

This question is best asked either as general type of question covering both petrol and diesel T31 models (in the general section of the forum) or if you're only concentrating and limiting your question to the choice of diesel models, please start a new thread under the Diesel T31 forum section.

Jalal
what is your thoughts on this? emoticon
All the diesels I have driven have got approx 30% better fuel economy than their petrol counterpart. Even with the current disparity between petrol and diesel cost the diesel should still come out in front.
