Tablelands 10 X 10

Hi Folks,

I am counting the days until the wife and I pack the Exy and head off into the bush for two weeks in the NSW Northern Tablelands. Haven't pinned down an exact schedule yet, but there are a number of places I am keen visit. It looks like we will cover at least 10 different national parks in the 10 days we are touring.

We plan to get dirty in the Barrington Tops, Towarri, New England, Cathedral Rock, Gibraltar Range, Washpool, Border Ranges, Nightcap, Mebbin and Mt Warning N.Ps. By my count we'll cover about 3000km with as much as possible on the dirt.

Does anyone know of some good Exy friendly routes in any of these locations? I've sussed out a few, but always keen to hear of any others.

Thanks and hoping to catch up with lots of you guys at Stockton Beach.

Re: Tablelands 10 X 10

Hi Dave
There's a pretty good road from just near Armidale down to Kempsey (via Bellbrook and Willawarrin). Dirt for the mountainous stretch. Quite a distance. I've done it 2 or 3 times. Once on motorcycle, once in a Kombi. Narrow winding, and prone to subsidence in some areas, and some spectacular views. Recently did a short section of the top end with someone else. I don't think the road has changed much in over 20years, and should be fun in the xtrail.
cheers
Julie

Hi Dave,
Wendy and myself have just finished doing a tour around N.S.W.
We started at Narrabri and then to Coonabaraben,Coolah across to Denham, singleton, down to Maitland, back up the coast to port mac, then to South west rocks and then across to Dorrigo and then went the waterfall way to Armidale and then we drove the 6 hours to home.
Great drive for the exy we had a ball and the car never missed a beat.
Regards Scot & Wendy emoticon emoticon

Hi Scot and Wendy,

Sounds like a great trip. We're going to cover some of the same ground as you guys did. Isn't that run up the Dorrigo mountain just amazing. I love that bit of road. There are some great rainforest walks in the park as well.

Not long after we got our Exy we drove up to the Sunshine Coast and the Bunya Mtns. Drove the 13 hours home from the Bunyas in the day (taking breaks of course). I was pleasantly surprised. The Exy proved to be a really nice long haul tourer.

Re: Tablelands 10 X 10

Warm sounds good!!! I was talking to a bloke up at Glen Innes yesterday who told me things were "pretty mild up here at the moment". When I asked him what that meant he replied "oh about minus 2 in the morning". They don't call it really cold until it gets below minus 10!!!!!! Hope the anti-freeze is up to the challenge!!!

Anyway, we've found some great spots to explore, so looking forward to doing a trip write up with plenty of pics when we get back.

See ya later guys
