Re: Trips in Vic

Yeah have played in Little Desert and managed to get stuck in some deep mud LOL.... If you guys arrange something in vic that is our (SA)end of vic then I would be more than hppy to come over and support it by joining... Im looking to get involved in some outings with others to push the exy a bit but dont have mates with 4x4's to take so would be very keen to join any vic events you plan late this year once the weather improves.... let us know some proposed locations and we may be able to arrange something..... has ayone ever been to the grampians VIC does that area have any moderate 4x4 tracks or just dirt roads.... was thinking of doing something there sometime but can't find a lot of info on what's there in the way of 4x4... anyhow would be great to be able to join in something... (have a T31 will travel)

Re: Trips in Vic

I have recently planned a day trip to The Toolangi State Forest through the AWDC of Victoria.
This trip is sheduled for Sunday 23rd November, and it has been agreed that an invitation be extended to Melbourne Xtrail forum members. The trip grading will be rated 2-3 using the forum rating system, which equates to easy/ medium for AWD vehicles.

Depending on the number of participants between both parties, 2 groups of approx 8 vehicles would run in opposite directions and meet up for lunch then continue on completing the trip route. We can assume a split of 50/50 AWDC members to Xtrail forum members.

Trip leader(s) and tail ender(s) will be AWDC members. This trip will be run in accordance with 4WD Victoria guidelines which is basically similar to the rules regarding Events and Meet-ups within the Australian Xtrail forum.

 ## For a vehicle to attend this trip owners must have the following:

- Handheld or in car 40 channel UHF radio.
- Rated snatch strap (free from damage)
- 2 rated bow shackles
- bridle or equilizing strap (T30 models)

Vehicles will be checked over for roadworthyness and recovery equipment prior to trip commencing. It is recommended all terrain tyres be fitted to your vehicle although HT tyres with adequate tread will be accepted.

** Vehicles with nearly bald tyres will not be allowed to participate ( less than 3mm tread depth).

On the day of the trip participants will need to fill out a personal details form and a temporary visitors form. I will be giving a trip briefing before we head off, which will include distribution of a map outlining the route taken and important information about travelling in a convoy.

Those expressing interest in this trip should state their level of offroad experience.
Further meeting times and other details will be sent via a PM message at a later date.

Good stuff Anthony and what an awesome opportunity for Melbourne forum members to be part of what sounds like an excellent off-road adventure emoticon

Come-on Melbourians, register your interest and don't miss-out. You've got plenty of catching-up to do in terms of trips and the "State Challenge" emoticon

Thanks to the AWDC VIC for extending this invite to members of our forum.

Re: Trips in Vic

I would be interested to hear of any Vic trips going, I'm in the gippsland region, and grew up hiking and driving most of the 4wd tracks in the area.

(not always in a 4wd lol)

Also familiar with Dargo area, which seems to be a popular run.

Would be interesting to get a few exy's together sometime and do the run.

Re: Trips in Vic

Just a reminder to those who are looking for a trip on the fringes of Melbourne's North East, trip is planned for Sunday Nov 23rd, plenty of space available. Depending on driver experience we will cater for various levels.

Details are in my post dated Sept 12th in this Trips in Vic thread.

A great opportunity to meet fellow xtrail and offroading owners.

Re: Trips in Vic

I'm interested in attending, Just have a few questions:

I have a stock exy - is this an issue?

My experience while extensive, extends mostly to navigation and co-driver duties, actual driving experience is at a minumum - is this an issue?

Lastly, where is the best place to find an equilizing strap to suit the T30's?

Re: Trips in Vic

Hi David,
Thanks for your interest, apart from all terrain tyres and bash plate my exy is also stock in terms of suspension / ride height. Being late spring your stock tyres should be ok as many club members still have original tyres fitted.

Before i did any training i also ventured out on my own to some offroad locations, was just careful that i could return safely. I even drove up Mt St Gwinear and back down in 4cm of snow. Basically the trip should consist of easy driving with a few small climbs and decends and some soft patches here and there. We will be there to help out with any concerns. A Rav 4 and forester will also be attending so far. I took a first timer offroad on my last trip and he had no problems at all (easy tracks around Powelltown / Starling's Gap).

I picked up my equilizing strap from 4x4store.com.au . They have a 8000 kg @ 3m for around $45 and 6000kg @ 2.5m at about $35 not including post. I chose the 3m mainly due to it being longer and providing a smaller included angle. Either would be fine.

Check under Equilizing straps on their menu.

During driver training a few months ago many of us got stuck and this worked a treat.

Hope this helps,
 Cheers ,
           Anthony

Re: Trips in Vic

Cool, sounds good, you can count me in, and I'll organise some gear.

Would you be able to provide me with some exact date/time/location info and any paperwork I'll need to fill in?

I have also had the offer of an experienced co-driver to come along, so I may take that offer.

Next step, dash mods to fit my CB.

Re: Trips in Vic

Hi guys,
In regards to the Toolangi trip set for Nov 23rd, we have a full list of participants for one group. It has been decided that only one group be run due to a slow down in further interest. Myself and Dranoweb are the only forum members (and xtrail owners) participating in the trip, all others are AWDC members apart from one who is a visitor.

Sorry to those who may have wanted to jump on board at the last minute, but thought its best to organize the trip as one group (less headaches). Other trips will be run in the future, so others can be a part of it.
