Re: Problem When filling up fuel tank

Evening all,

well who would believe it they replaced the cluster and low and behold the prblem is still present, even the dealer could not belive what they were seeing. A new clustrer, new sensors and yet a tank with 68.1 on board was registering as having only 63 on board.

Then on a run across to SA over Easter we went from a refuel at Ararat to well across the Vic/Sa Border befor the indicator moved then it dropped in increments of two so clearly the problem is still present.

I rang Nissan and they were not that interested in the issue which I found very disappointing to say the least, this is a vehicle with issues from day one off the line and they dont seem to care at all. I wonder how they would feel if any product they purchased for this sort of investment was faulty.

So where to from here is the next question, well I am thinking a firm letter to Nissan on the matter and still trying to work with the local techs to solve the problem. At the end of the day its not a good endorsement for the Nissan brand but they dont seem to care at all about this. emoticon

Re: Problem When filling up fuel tank

Hi Alan,

Sounds to me like you might have a tank which was moulded incorrectly or there is a spacer ring missing from the sensor mounting.
Your symptoms of not having the indicator move until you have used quite a bit of fuel would tell me that the level probe was inserted too far into the tank such that the level when full was well above where it should be in relation to the sensor.

Discuss this possibility with your dealer and maybe have them replace the fuel tank as they have tried everything else.

Re: Problem When filling up fuel tank

Evening All,

Well have been chasing the dealer for the last couple of weeks to find out the next step, according to them Nissan want to go through the sensor replacement process again as they claim to have made some mods to the fuel sensors.

Seems like a bit of been there done that to me but will yet again have the car off the road whilst they try and figure out a solution. Again very disappointing with the attitude of the Nissan Call Centre.

I can't believe this has gone on for so long, you must be getting pretty frustrated.

Looks like we're having the same problem here. But there's no solution from Nissan to me yet. They said they gonna replace the fuel pump set but mine still in waiting list.. arghh..

Re: Problem When filling up fuel tank

Hi all,
have been missing for a while but the good news is that Nissan have fitted a new and improved fuel tank sensor ( number 6 I think this was) and it seems to have done the trick. The last 3 fills have all registered correctly emoticon . But will keep a watching brief on it just in case. I hear that they have a similar issue with one of their other vehicles.

I can only suggest that if you have the problem it is important that you keep at them to keep working until they solve the problem. Of course it help if you have a good dealership who are willing to keep trying as well. Full credit to Werribee Nissan Service Department for their work as well.

posticon Re: Problem When filling up fuel tank

Well it has all gone south with this one, I put the nice black exy in for its 15,000 service and would you believe it once they hooked up the computer the fuel sensors went crazy and have not registered the correct fuel or DTE calculation since.

The dealer has yet again said that they will install a replacement once they get some from Japan. emoticon

Re: Problem When filling up fuel tank

This is ridiculous.
Surely they have to look at the wiring to the senders that may be sending a surge of some sort. Especially as you said since they plug the consult into it.

At least you had 3 hours of it reading full.

Re: Problem When filling up fuel tank

Hi All,

Well have been waiting for over a month for either the dealer or Nissan to contact me re the current set of problems with the fuel guage. Now I can go from full to 3/4 in one movement and the DTE calc is not worth taking into consideration. Most recent calc was over 50 Lt and a DTE of 230 KM on freeway cycle.

Any advice on this would be appreciated, who else can you call if not direct to nissan who dont want to know about the problem.

Guess that will teach me to consider not giving out credit to soon. emoticon

Have you asked if they are loading some upgraded (or downgraded) ECU program accidentally ?
