Its all good, but I do notice that if the Xy is on an angle, the fuel cap lower than the L/H side of the car, it will not read full cause the tank can't fill up properly on that angle.

I can see the senders being an issue after warranty expires.

No worries. I think it happens with all dual reservoir tanks on cars that have them. I actually believe there is a design problem with the T31 split tank arrangement where the sender units are getting confused as to how much fuel is there in the tank (as a whole) compared to what is in each reservoir. The incorrect signal is being sent.

Hi Matt,

Yes the problem is also impacting on the DTE calculation, even with a full tank it is mis calcualting by around one eight.

Hi all,

Well we still have the issue with the fuel level sensor unit but to their credit the local dealer is running a wide bank of checks and is very co-operative, you can see that they area as frustrated as I am with this.

I have the sensor signal check information from the dealer and can advise that for the main unit the resistance ohms when full is supposed to be 2.5 and mine when manually lifted is returning 3.1. When empty the resistance is set for 79 and mine returned 79.2 so at least the main guage will be correct when its empty.

For the sub unit the resistance when full is again set for 2.5 and it returned 3.3 and for empty 4.7 and returned 46.6.

Nissan claim that this is in spec but my view back to them is that a brand new vehicle should be able to register a full tank each time not each time the sensors are replace.

They have also asked the dealer to provide details as to the torque that they have applied to the unit when re-securing it , which I feel is a bit over the top considering that the vehicle has been sub standard since the day of delivery and this issue is nothing to do with the local service guys.

Using the diagnostic computer we were able to check the actual volume in the tank to almost the exact liter and this supported the guage at the lower end of the scale.

A manual check of the float to sensor connection was also able to get the last indicator to illuminate but once you tried this with fuel it failed, a check of the level of resistance to the float also suggested no issues.

Added to this Nissan is now taking on average 1.5 days to repond to the dealer with follow ups.

So the current situation is that the guage is still faulty and to be honest I get the feeling that Nissan think that if they ask for more tests that I will give up and go away.

Hate to correct them but this is not likely in fact I will just dig in deeper and fight harder.

Oh and just to make this more interesting Nissan want a description of how the vehicle has been refueled each time the indicatior has failed. emoticon

Stick with it Alan.

When I had my XR6 I had a problem where it would run low on oil after 7,000kms, well before each service interval of 10,000kms. The first time they said there were no leaks they could find, topped up the oil and said to tell them if it happens again. Well, after another 7,000kms it again run low on oil. So into the dealer and they then topped it up and said we will keep a check on the level. Another 7,000kms and again low oil so they checked the level and yep, it was low on the dip stick. This went on for a while until finally after 45,000kms they tried to tell me it was because engines being made fuel-efficient were meant to be "looser" and would use more oil so I mentioned they should change their service interval to 5,000kms so I could go from service to service without running out of oil emoticon

Finally Ford Australia asked them to keep the car for 1 week and strip the engine. They confirmed that the 2nd oil scraper ring in cylinder 1 was missing emoticon

and promptly rebuilt the engine under full warranty complete with new main crankshaft bearings.

So if Ford Australia can admit a fault after such a long time, hopefully Nissan Australia can also do the same with your fault. The key is to have it reported at each service so there is a running history to backup your warranty replacement claims later.

I agree I think Nissan Aust due use delaying / Frustrating tactics etc - Dont blame the dealer he is just stuck in the middle

They have been messing me around for nearly three months now with the oil issue - but I aint going away either!!!

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the feed back on other types of issues, as I explained to the dealer, if they think delaying tactics will make me go away then they are very wrong.

I plan to contact Nissan direct tomorrow to try and discuss the matter and to arrive at a solution. But of course if they keep replacing non suitable parts then the issue will not go away.

Will try an keep all across this and that way if we find a solution then it might work for the rest of those Exy fans who may not be as stubborn as what I am.

Evening all,

Well have heard back from the dealer and they have advised that Nissan is now suggesting that the "cluster" be replaced. Of course this is not the type of spare part that the average dealer has on hand so its another waiting session until they can get one in.

The next issue that the dealer has is that this will most likely result in the odometer going back to zero unelss they can figure out how to pre set it.

I contacted nissan on the help line and asked them what would be the next step if this also results in the same issue, to which they could not answer as they claim that they have not had to take this sort of corrective action before.
