Re: STOCKTON BEACH 14th June 2008
My apologies but I am going to drop out due to work commitments. It's a shame to have to miss the event but such is life.

Re: STOCKTON BEACH 14th June 2008
Sorry to hear that Ron and hopefully we'll catch-up next time.
OK, so we're back to 13 XTRAILs and 1 Mazda UTE LOL
Ron has put together some safety tips (thanks Ron) for the first timers, so I thought I'd post them here for you to read and absorb before the trip:
quote:
Stockton beach X-Trail forum info
To drive on Stockton beach do require a permit, you can obtain these from various outlets but possibly the petrol station in Anna Bay (a few hundred metres past the 4WD access to the beach) might be the easiest. The cost of a permit is around $10.- for a weekend pass.
- In the carpark it is best to deflate your tyres for sand driving - start by deflating to at least 18psi and depending on your vehicle and how you're going, consider letting out a bit more air if you have troubles.
- Provided you don't turn too sharply with deflated tyres you shouldn't have any problems going as low as 12psi.
- You can re-inflate your tyres at the service station in Anna Bay
Then a few tips to stay safe:
- When driving over a dune, make sure you know what is at the other side. Assess the situation first!
- Always drive straight up or down the dunes, driving at an angle may cause your vehicle to roll over.
- Never use your brakes descending a sand dune, in fact it is best to use the accelerator a little
- Never stop your vehicle half-way down a dune or side-on at the top of a dune - soft sand may fall away from under the weight of your vehicle causing you to roll over
- Wait until the vehicle in front has successfully cleared the obstacle (dune) ahead before you have a go
- If you get stuck – use the 2-way to get assistance.
- If stuck halfway up a dune, reverse back down in a straight line. If this is not possible use the 2-way to get help. For automatics – do not put the transmission in “P” – use the handbrake and “N”.
- Do not walk behind a vehicle stuck on an incline.
- It’s unlikely that you’ll encounter a speed trap on the beach, but nevertheless Stockton beach does have a speed limit – drive responsibly!
But most of all
Have fun!
