So, they changed all the fluids, tightened all the frame bolts, tightened the bash plate and apparently the noise is not there. Get the car back, fine for a couple of weeks and the noise is now back, more intermitant now though and the car is close to being out of warranty. Call the dealer book it in and tell them it's staying there until the find the fault, and I need a curtesy car. Fight to get a curtesy car and advise them I will need it until they fix our car. What do you know - they find the fault in approximately 4 hours. It was part of a plastic shroud or plastic part of the bash plate rubbing on the drive shaft. The plastic had been bent (probably from some off road driving....) solution - they trimmed the offending plastic and problem solved. Who knows how many hours they spent ( or whether it went into the too hard basket). It doesn't really give me any faith in the dealer service. Once out of warranty I'm sending it to my mechanic who services my chev. nondisclosed_email@example.com (iroczvinnie)Sat, 28 Feb 2009 14:55:39 +0000 Re: Grinding noise from left front wheel.https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2023607,from=rss#post2023607https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2023607,from=rss#post2023607That was a quick and easy fix for you Shane.nondisclosed_email@example.com (cooch t31)Mon, 09 Feb 2009 05:02:32 +0000 Re: Grinding noise from left front wheel.https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2023592,from=rss#post2023592https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2023592,from=rss#post2023592The problem has been rectified with front wheel. He had to get the bearings shipped up from Nissan in Adelaide, so freight was $40 (air)! Having said that - both fronts replaced for a total cost of $485 That includes the freight and 3 hours labour! It would seem the bearings have dropped dramatically in price and are now only $70 each. The hubs were apparently fine. Don't do a lot of kms at the moment. A friend took it for a drive this afternoon and said it's the front right wheel bearing. At 35,000 the front wheel bearings had to be replaced on warranty as the right one had gone. Now the right one has gone again at 90,000. Any ideas on why the right one has gone, again. So it would be great for the owners of 2007 Model to be aware of these faulty front wheel bearings on some cars. Thank you merv So, there is a high possibility that the new bearings which I have just bought are faulty right from the factory and that is exactly why I want the dealer to change them for me, so at least if something does go wrong with them, it will be covered by the repair warranty and the receipt I have which proves I bought the bearings from them nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Mon, 31 Mar 2008 18:07:40 +0000 Re: Grinding noise from left front wheel.https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2011004,from=rss#post2011004https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2011004,from=rss#post2011004Just came back from the dealer and picked-up 2 front bearings for my next service. Part Number: 40210-2Y000 (BEARING ASSY-FR) suitable for Ti and ST T30 xtrail. Price was $114.00 each incl. GST As advised previously, the bearings made by NTN-Japan. The guys at the dealership think that the cause of such failure with these bearings is the grade of grease used in its internal parts which seem to dry-up after a while. They also agreed with me that it is best changing them at the 100K service, even if they're not making any grinding noises as yet.nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Wed, 26 Mar 2008 13:06:55 +0000
