You can use the electrical section for that.

Re: Adding a Glovebox Light to a T31 X-Trail

Hi Wal,

I noticed the glove box light accidentally on the weekend while ferreting around in there with the headlights on (it only took me six months to find it)!

I have a 2011 Series IV ST, so the light has been around for a little while now.

My next job is to see if there's a switch in there or if the light is always on with the headlights.

Cheers,
Mark

A Grail?

No thanks, I've already got one!

Frenchmen from afar - "Your mother was a Hamster and your father smelled of Elderberries."

Sorry, did you say glovebox light?

I thought you said 'Grail'.

They seem to be standard in the series 4.

That is, the light is standard, the Grail is not.

Anyway - I've already got one.

Apparently an optional Grail costs as much as a towbar.

[Apologies to Monty Python but it was an opportunity impossible to resist]

Re: Adding a Glovebox Light to a T31 X-Trail

I have just bought a June 2013 X-trail and it has a light too and a switch to heat or cool the glovebox. . This is great but the internals of the glove box are completely different to the earlier model T31's. And although it has 8 screws, when I remove them and pull at the bottom as Jalal posted for the earlier mode,l it stays put! Anyone have any idea of how to get it out? I am trying to run wires thru for the caravan battery and brakes.

I have just installed a genuine towbar and found it a lot harder than the T30. Others be warned!
Cheers
Charles

Ps Have just found the answer under Power Window Delay Installation. Many thanks Johnqld and Steve50 for the excellent guide

Also, my Series 4 Ti doesn't have the glovebox light. I just went outside and checked while the car was running and the headlights were on.

I have to correct the above statement to avoid confusing anyone.

I double checked and my Series 4 Ti does indeed have a glovebox light or actually a candle and that is why I missed it the first time because it was so dim emoticon

Re:

I'd rather the glovebox have a switch to turn the light on and off. Who digs around in the glovebox with the headlights turned on? And what use is the light at night time it the lid is shut anyway? Sounds to me like a cost cutting exercise ;-)

Re:

Yep
Cost is the king
The dam tiny little light only comes on with the parkers or headlights.
Mine didnt work when I got the car, the globe had blown, probably because its always on.
I fitted a LED replacement, but be aware, it has to be fited the right way around or it dont work.
Try one way, if it dont light, turn it around, they must have a safet circuit to protect the LED.

The LED is brighter and will run cooler and should last longer.
I may rewire it later to a switch and have it live all the time.
As you say, who turns on the head lights to open a glove box on the other damn side of the car.
There should be some hot wires somewhere I can use and a simple door switch will suffice.

Some info:

LED's are Diodes.
LED = Light Emitting Diode.

Diodes only conduct electricity one way so that's why LEDs only work one way.

Diodes first use in electronics was to "rectify" AC current to DC current.

Later someone found a certain type could emit light.
